Unclickable links in profiles. Why did they disappear?

Since the appearance of groups and channels in Telegram, they had a description, later links in it became active ... In September 2017, descriptions appeared in user profiles. For three years (until October 2020), links in the profile description were clickable only in unofficial clients and Telegram X for Android.

With the Telegram update to version 7.2 (version 2.4.5 for Telegram Desktop), the situation has changed.

In the description of the user and groups, the following are highlighted:
- Usernames (@tginfoen).
- Links t.me and telegram.org (t.me/tginfoen).

In the description of channels and bots, the following are highlighted:
- Usernames (@tginfoen).
- Links t.me and telegram.org (t.me/tginfoen).
- Other links (tginfo.me).

It seems rather strange that even links to telegra.ph (an article writing service from Telegram) are not highlighted. In many cases, the group description included a link to the rules or useful links using this service (due to the support of Instant View).

Take part in our pool: do you use links in the description and are they important to you, and in the comments to the survey, you can indicate cases of using links in the description of a group or profile.

Run your own Bot API server

You can run Bot API locally and send the requests to your own server instead of api.telegram.org. If you switch to a local Bot API server, your bot will be able to:

- Download files without a size limit.
- Upload files up to 2000 MB.
- Upload files using their local path and the file URI scheme.
- Use an HTTP URL for the webhook.
- Use any local IP address for the webhook.
- Use any port for the webhook.
- Set max_webhook_connections up to 100000.
- Receive the absolute local path as a value of the file_path field without the need to download the file after a getFile request.

The source code of the Telegram Bot API server is licensed under the Boost Software License.

Transferring ownership of bots
⁠⁠⁠⁠
Along with the update Bot API to version 5.0, it became possible to transfer ownership of a bot from one account to another.

For transmission:
- Two-factor authentication must be enabled at least 7 days prior to transfer. The password should not change during this time.
- The session from which the transfer takes place must exist for at least 24 hours.
- The user to whom the transfer is carried out must write to the bot and unblock it (if the bot was blacklisted by the user).

The transfer is carried out through the bot @botfather.

Proposal to improve behaviour of mobile number change and account deletion for two-factor auth protected accounts

Telegram channel administrators address this message to Pavel Durov

Two-factor authorization serves to protect your account and is requested when you log into your account, as well as transfer channels and bots to another account.

But not all important actions are protected. Two-factor authorization is not required to change a mobile number or delete an account. This creates a huge risk in the physical arrest of a SIM card or phone, substitution of the number at the operator level, detention of the administrator, as well as the seizure of equipment.

Channel administrators ask Pavel Durov to enable additional protection.

How carelessness can lead to channel loss

An administrator of a Telegram channel called «Reddit» reported their channel was stolen by scammers.

The hacking took place with the help of a stealer trojan that simply stole the data of the Telegram client. More details can be found on «Durov's Code» (Russian).

Telegram Info editorial staff strongly recommends to use a local password in Telegram Desktop, to do not download applications and unknown files from people on the Internet.

A local password will not just restrict physical access to your messaging, but will also prevent copying files to steal the current session. Alas, when a full-fledged trojan enters your PC, password will not save you.

If there is an urgent need to download unknown programs, you should use a sandbox.

Also, do not disable Windows Defender, which comes with Windows 10. Doing this doesn't just introduce risks to your security. Contrary to the common myth, for modern PCs disabling this antivirus does not give a performance gain.

Combot swallowed Zuku

The popular chat moderation bot @combot bought by @ZukuBot.

Administrators who have used Zuku in their chats have received a newsletter that says the end of user support. Those who pay for Zuku are encouraged to get a 1 year premium subscription to Combot. The question of further work of Zuku will be decided later. Combot currently has 120,000 active groups, while Zuku has only 5,000.

This is the first major purchase of one bot by another, made possible by the emerging transfer of ownership feature in BotFather.

Fedor Skuratov, owner of Combot, said that this acquisition is not the last and further purchases are planned.
