So his companions looked at him. He said, 'It appears that you disapprove of it.' Then he said, 'I will never show apprehension to anyone with regards to this. Verily, I heard the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, "Whomever attributes himself (in lineage) with an attribution of Jahiliyyah, then tell him to bite his father's male organ and do not speak figuratively (i.e. be explicit)."

Jahiliyyah means ignorance and refers to the time before Islam.

He replied, "I seek refuge in You from those who sever the ties of kinship and friendship." Allah said, "Will you be satisfied if I bestow My favour upon those who maintain your ties and withhold My favour from those who sever your ties?" He said, "Yes, O my Lord!" Allah said, "That is for you." Abu Huraira added: If you wish, you may recite: "Would you then, if you were given power, cause mischief in the land and sever your ties of kinship? (47. 22)
