Top 10 Current Affairs of 2020-21 related to Women
🏆International Women's Day Theme 2021: Choose to Challenge
It seeks to raise awareness of gender disparity and highlight women's accomplishments. Its aim is to raise awareness about the value of having an option.
🏆Kamala Harris was elected as the first woman vice president-elect of the United States in November 2020, breaking down walls that had kept men stuck at the highest levels of American politics for many years.
🏆Scotland became the first country to have free and compulsory access to menstrual products, such as tampons and pads, in public buildings such as schools and universities. The Period Products bill was passed unanimously by the Scottish parliament.
🏆Gitanjali Rao, a fifteen-year-old scientist and inventor, has been named TIME magazine's first-ever "Kid of the Year."
🏆Nanaia Mahuta was New Zealand's first indigenous woman to be confirmed as Foreign Minister.
🏆Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in October for their work on Crispr-Cas9, a method of DNA editing. The two scientists were at the forefront of attempts to transform microbe-produced molecules into a method for customising genes. The combined victory of Dr. Charpentier and Dr. Doudna represents the first time in history that the award has been shared by two women. Also, note that Dr. Andrea Ghez also won a Nobel Prize 2020 in Physics.
🏆Shivangi Singh became the first woman to command a Rafale fighter jet.
🏆Sub-Lieutenant Shivangi Swaroop made history by becoming the first woman to fly Indian Navy fixed-wing Dornier surveillance planes.
🏆Bhawna Kanth became the Indian Air Force's first female pilot in 2020.
🏆Carolina Araujo has won the Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians for the first time, and she is the first non-Indian to do so. On December 9, 2020, she was awarded the prize at a virtual ceremony.
