Joann Chirico’s work, "Children at Risk at Work" (2019), examines the root causes of child labor and the exploitation of young workers, and proposes viable solutions to promote fair treatment and eliminate exploitative practices. In response to these challenges, while highlighting the vulnerability of children at society’s margins and their exposure to uncontrollable forces, Chirico stresses the need to make the enhancement of their lives a top priority through the removal of extreme poverty and accompanying societal challenges. Therefore, the article argues for the importance of strengthening labor laws, penalties, and enforcement to combat child labor, referencing the 2015 Millenium Development Goals report, which urges more targeted action for intervention for the most at-risk children (UN, 2015).
