The sentences doled out in the Prairieland case today are horrific.

Des was sentenced to 30 years in prison for moving a box of zines.

There is no pretense of "justice" here. The judge said, “the state wants to send a message to anyone who shares a similar ideology.”

The Prairieland defendants will appeal their convictions, but the entire court system is rotten—especially in Texas. We must completely discredit the tyranny of ICE and Donald Trump, creating a situation in which anyone who succeeds Trump is compelled to pardon those who suffered under Trump.

From the Prairieland case to the Minneapolis 15, the federal government is trying to criminalize opposition to ICE itself.

One concrete thing that you can do is to make sure that the defendants and prisoners have all the resources they need to mount an effective defense.

Supporting the defendants is a way of resisting tyranny. It is a way to minimize the likelihood that others—perhaps one day including you—face the same strategy of repression.

But when local executives and politicians do the same, patriots readily render their obedience, tax dollars, and children.
