We are a rebel alliance—a decentralized network pledged to anonymous collective action—a breakout from the prisons of our age. We strive to reinvent our lives and our world according to the principles of self-determination and mutual aid.

25 years ago, in April 2001, at the high point of the movement against capitalist globalization, anarchists from around North America converged in Québec City to oppose a summit intended to establish a “Free Trade Area of the Americas” (FTAA).

The clashes during the FTAA summit arguably represent the apex of the powerful anti-capitalist movement of the turn of the century, at least in North America.

In this narrative, a participant in the resistance in Québec City recounts the street battles and explains the ambitions of those who fought in them:

Remember how last September, Trump announced that he would be cracking down on all opposition to fascism, designating it "terrorism"?

https://crimethinc.com/Safeguarding

If you are not personally experiencing repression yet, it is thanks to those—for example, in Los Angeles and Minnesota—who tied the administration down in other fights.

As Trump’s position weakens, he and his supporters will attempt more and more dangerous schemes to maintain their grip on power. They still have enough time to inflict a tremendous amount of suffering, both in the US and overseas. We should prepare for new rounds of repression, new assaults. This fight is not over.

In chess, once you become focused on defense, you have lost the game. To face down the administration, we need proactive strategies. Rather than reacting over and over, we have to choose the time and place of conflicts, tying up the resources and labor cycles that will otherwise be directed at us.

Now, between clashes with the stormtroopers of the Trump regime, is a good time to put the pieces in place to be ready for the next round.

This guide equips street medics and health professionals to respond to some of the common injuries inflicted by police violence.

This is a photograph of Beirut under siege in 1982, before Hezbollah even existed.

The Israeli military operation in Lebanon is not just about Hezbollah. They are using the same playbook they used in Gaza. The Israeli military is using Hezbollah as an excuse to target civilians according to ethnicity, intentionally murder journalists, and displace people in order to seize land.

Ethnic cleansing is a core goal in all Israeli foreign policy.

Today, it has been three months since ICE agents brutally murdered Alex Pretti.

Federal officials rushed to spread blatant lies, claiming that Pretti had assaulted ICE agents even though widely available video showed this to be false. They had spread the same lies about Renee Good when ICE agent Jonathan Ross murdered her two weeks earlier.

It's impossible to overstate this: the Trump regime wants to be able to murder you with impunity and lie about why they did.

We honor the courage of the demonstrators who immediately responded to Pretti's murder. Let's create a world in which mercenaries can neither kidnap nor murder members of our communities.

As people prepare to strike for May Day, we recommend this text comparing the last two general strikes that took place in Oakland, California (in 1946 and 2011) in order to distill lessons about how to organize a general strike today:

http://crimethinc.com/twoGeneralStrikes

The conclusion summarizes what it takes to organize a general strike in an era of informal and precarious labor, emphasizing the need for grassroots organizing models that could connect people the way that the unions did in 1946 and the Occupy assemblies did in 2011.

Trump has been rushed out of the White House correspondents’ dinner after reports of gunfire nearby.

Regardless of what really happened in Washington, DC tonight, the Trump administration will attempt to use this to call for more repression. Remember: anything you hear from anyone in the entire administration is likely a lie. That goes double for Kash Patel's FBI.

This is not the first time we have seen the Trump regime employ this tactic. They promote the gun industry, and then every time there is a shooting in their vicinity, they try to use it to seize control the way the Nazis used the Reichstag fire. Some Trump supporters have made this strategy explicit in precisely those words.

For background on how to prepare for repression:

Yet another shooting, this time in DC.

Centrists will provide cover for Trump by treating this shooting as a worse tragedy than the tens of thousands of annual gun violence fatalities.

Whether they are motivated by fear or genuine concern for human life, the consequence will be to give the Trump administration and its supporters a free hand.

Remember, Trump and his henchmen are hastening into fascism as fast as they can. They have already scripted the scenes in advance. They will make use of whatever opportunities arise, however far-fetched. The important question is whether others will enable them to do so.

The burning of the Reichstag in February 1933 enabled the Nazis to consolidate power in Germany only because others responded to it by granting the Nazis emergency powers. The way to stop a Reichstag fire is not to attempt to control those who act in response to state violence, but rather, to refuse to legitimize fascist initiatives or narratives under any circumstances.

Anything else is complicity.

As long as we think of success as an individual achievement rather than the thriving of our communities, we will remain isolated and alienated, like the billionaire sociopaths we seek to emulate.

Mutual aid transforms us, enabling us to act and dream together.

What We Want for May Day

https://crimethinc.com/MayDay2026

What do we want for May Day? In short, to take another step towards freedom from all forms of oppression—towards what we call anarchy, by which we mean egalitarian relationships based in self-determination, solidarity, and mutual aid. Anarchists have been central to May Day since its origins as a labor holiday in 1886, when police in Chicago attempted to suppress anarchist labor organizers who were fighting for right to the eight-hour workday.

Today, as intensifying authoritarianism propels more and more people into action, we have a window of opportunity to make real change. But what does a general strike look like in 21st-century capitalism?

We present some starting points and a handbill to promote them.

On January 23, over 300,000 people withdrew from the economy in the Twin Cities, carrying out a general strike to exert leverage against the ICE occupation.

Ahead of May Day, it's worth revisiting this example of how we can wield collective power—and what can hinder us from doing so.

https://crimethinc.com/2026generalstrikes

"We need a movement that cannot be held back or hijacked by any leadership, a movement that compels every aspiring vanguard to hurry after it, setting aside their squabbles and petty ambitions. That was what made the general strike of January 23 so powerful...

"The important question is whether an organizational model is reproducible, serving to empower whoever makes use of it to resist oppression, or extractive, serving to concentrate power in the hands of leaders."
