Why celebrate May Day?

This year, in taking the streets, we are showing each other who is prepared to fight:

"Take a stand—we'll be there, too."

And every year, by coming together once more, we show that we are part of a story much greater than ourselves, a story that stretches back centuries.

The gas chamber executions at the Mauthausen concentration camp went on until Hitler committed suicide immediately before May Day, 1945.

On May 5, Spanish prisoners welcomed liberation with this banner:
