Balance Sheet: Two Years against Cop City

http://crimethinc.com/AgainstCopCity

Starting in April 2021, a bold movement set out to defend Weelaunee Forest in Atlanta, Georgia, where local politicians and corporate profiteers want to build a police training compound known as Cop City. In the following assessment, participants evaluate the strategic hypotheses that the movement has produced and tested over the past two years and reflect on the risks and possibilities of the next phase of the struggle.

This is a sort of balance sheet concluding the history of the movement that we published last week, "The Forest in the City."

The government of New York City has agreed to pay $21,500 to each of hundreds of demonstrators who were penned in by the police in the Bronx during protests in June 2020.

This is only the latest example of something that has been happening for decades. Police systematically engage in millions of dollars worth of illegal activity on a regular basis. To the authorities, it's worth breaking their own laws and throwing millions of taxpayer dollars into settlements if it means that they can maintain control.

Nobody believes in the sanctity of law less than the cops and those who control them. No wonder anarchists don't, either.

From Bolsheviks to right-wing conservatives, many different currents have spread falsehoods about who participated in the Kronstadt uprising and what their goals were. Fortunately, you can see for yourself by reading their own words.

This is the third issue of the Izvestia [news] of the Provisional Revolutionary Committee of Sailors, Soldiers, and Workers of the Town of Kronstadt, in the original Russian and as an English facsimile.
