For over a year, a powerful social movement has defended the last remaining forest in Atlanta against the city government's plans to build a giant police training center and corporate film studio.

Yesterday, in a brutal raid involving pepper balls and tear gas, police destroyed the inspiring structures that people have built to protect the forest. Today, they are charging five arrestees with "domestic terrorism" for allegedly participating in forest defense.

This is standard government practice whenever ecological movements threaten business interests. But it is capitalist profiteering, not eco-activists, that is destroying the environment we all depend on and hastening climate change. It is police, not eco-activists, who are terrorizing communities.

Please stand in solidarity with those who are fighting to keep the earth habitable.🖤🏴

Today, Twitter suspended It's Going Down (@igd_news), a longtime anarchist and anti-fascist news source that had never previously run afoul of the Twitter rules. IGD received no explanation for the ban. At the time of their suspension, they had 108,000 followers.

Elon Musk was lying through his teeth when he said he believes in free speech. He bought Twitter in order to suppress the voices of those who seek an egalitarian society. Since taking over the platform, he has reinstated avowed neo-Nazis and taken guidance from those who explicitly support fascism as he targets journalists and activists.

Today, it has been a year and a day since a fire tore through our mail-order space, destroying thousands of our books and posters and much of our infrastructure. In response, people around the world mobilized to support us, raising tens of thousands of dollars and flooding us with messages of encouragement.

It was an inspiring example of solidarity. We've never set aside any profits from our activities, never sought to acquire resources for ourselves as a consequence of our political efforts, and it turned out that we didn't have to, because in our moment of need, you were there for us. This experience will sustain us for years to come.

As must be obvious to everyone by now, Elon Musk is a liar, an opponent of free speech, a supporter of fascists, and an aspiring autocrat. He is imitating the model demonstrated by Donald Trump, using the capital he has accumulated from exploiting workers and government subsidies to take over other aspects of our society. By promoting fascism and conspiracy theories, he hopes to redirect ordinary people towards bigotry and boot-licking rather than righteous anger at those who exploit and oppress us.

Today, we honor the memory of Mohamed Bouazizi, who set himself on fire on December 17, 2010 in response to police violence, catalyzing a chain reaction of revolt that led to the Tunisian and Egyptian revolutions.

By drawing back the curtain from injustice so people could come together to fight it, he gave us a precious gift, but a costlier gift than we have any right to receive. His death hangs in eternity as an irreparable tragedy.
