Here is the thing about depression.

It gets better at some point. One morning you find yourself breathing without a
lump in your throat. You find yourself getting up early to do some exercise. You find yourself drinking water, watching what you eat, taking yourself to the cinema,
buying yourself the things you’ve always wanted but didn’t have the energy for,
attending events and relating with “How-to” books and sharing meditative blogs. It
gets better. And you start feeling like all of it is a choice, YOUR choice, and that all
you need to change is your mindset. It gets better. One morning you find yourself
taking care of your nails, your hair and even your purse. And then, some late afternoon, while making your bed, it’ll hit you. And it will hit you hard. You’ll slip in between the sheets. You will binge-watch some show you’ve already watched. You will find yourself back to square one but harder. Harder because you will try to convince yourself that it’s a choice. After three days in bed, you will find out it’s not really a choice. Taking care of your hair becomes so consuming. The things you bought yourself won’t matter as they did a week ago. You’ll realize the “How-to” books aren’t for people like you. You’d forget to remind yourself to eat and you won’t know until you feel your hands shaking. Sighing persistently becomes your new breathing. Until one morning. Where you wake up and find yourself breathing without a lump in your throat and getting up feels like a choice.

*Stop telling people it’s a choice when it’s not yours to make.

*Be patient with yourself.

*Be there, wherever that is at that point.

*Be patient with others. Let them have the late afternoon and the three day they
need.

The boy asks "How do you do it?"
"How do I do what?" says the old man
Frustrated, the boy screams "LIFE"
Smiling, the old man replies, "My boy, Life goes on, with or with out you. Might as well go along."

I knocked
And I knocked some more
"Knock, Knock"
And God answered,
"Who's there?"
But
I don't remember the joke
Not anymore

Just like you see the light a thunder sends before you hear its loud roar
You'd see his spark first ,
and it'd be purple,
aren't all bruises purple?
You'd see him spark one last time and hear his cry long after his light is gone.

“Let’s not talk about the past. I really want to move on” I tell him.

“Do you know what the best way to move on is?” he asks, smiling

“What?” I ask

“Coloring your hair.” He laughs.

For some reason, I really hoped he had the answers.
After a minute, when he sees me giving up
He continues,

“I read somewhere that the hair contains information about everything that has ever been in the bloodstream."

I do my thinking on the road
So the same thought won't happen twice
But will be long gone with the wind
The trees the houses
The sunset
I leave behind
"Why do you write?"
Is the equivalence of "Are you okay?"
That's why my fingers stutter all over my keyboard
