Let us take a moment to be sad. To feel. To talk about the people we have lost, the people we love, the people we care about, and the people we would be willing to give our lives for.
Or perhaps we are about to lose them, but we cannot tell them how much we love them or what we would be willing to sacrifice for them. We see them every day, yet we cannot tell them how much they mean to us because we are afraid that one day, we will lose them forever.
Let us take a moment to be sad, knowing that at least we could have told them how much they meant to us. We know we will have to endure the pain of losing them for the rest of our lives, carrying the memories and feelings that will never completely leave us.
We are here today because they couldn't make it here with us.
Let us take a moment to think about our parents, who sacrificed themselves for us, who gave up their youth, their dreams, and sometimes even the lives they could have lived, just to give us a chance at life.
Let us think about our friends who are willing to spend their time with us, who ask how we feel, who care about what we want, and who check on us when nobody else does.
Let us think about the people we love but cannot tell how much we miss them, how deeply we care about them, or how much they mean to us. Instead, we give them cold eyes and emotionless faces because, somewhere deep inside, we believe we are going to lose everyone we love. Or perhaps we believe we are simply not enough.
So we carry all this pain inside a single body, pretending we are fine while silently fighting battles nobody knows about.
Everyone expects us to be gentle, to be strong, to understand, to forgive, and to keep going. But sometimes, life feels so unfair that happiness seems like something we will never truly experience.
So, let us take a moment to think.
Let us allow ourselves to feel the sadness we have been hiding. Let us remember the people who made sacrifices for us, the people who stood beside us, and the people whose absence has left spaces in our hearts that nobody else can fill.
Let us stop pretending that we are not hurting.
Because sometimes, we are so afraid of losing the people we love that we forget to show them how much we love them while they are still here.
And sometimes, we are so busy trying to survive that we forget we are allowed to feel, too.
Today, let us take a moment.
A moment for the people we miss.
A moment for the people we love.
A moment for the people we couldn't save, the people we couldn't hold onto, and the people we wish we had told a little more.
And a moment for ourselves, too.
