RT @MFA_Ukraine: The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has taken another practical step toward launching the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine.

Today in Chișinău, during the Council of Europe Ministerial Session, a decision was adopted approving the Enlarged Partial Agreement on the establishment of the Management Committee of the Special Tribunal – one of the key elements of its institutional architecture.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha described the decision as an important stage in moving from political agreements to the practical launch of the international accountability mechanism for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.

💬 “We are consistently moving toward the full-fledged launch of the Special Tribunal. This is yet another signal that the international community is determined to ensure the inevitability of accountability for the crime of aggression,” the Minister stressed.

Andrii Sybiha also expressed gratitude to Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset, the Council of Europe member states, and the European Union for supporting the process of establishing the Special Tribunal.

The adoption of today’s decision became possible thanks to notifications of intent to join the Agreement submitted by 34 Council of Europe member states, the European Union, Costa Rica, and Australia (Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom).

The Minister separately called on partners to swiftly finalize their domestic procedures for joining the Agreement and ensure its earliest possible entry into force.

The Enlarged Partial Agreement remains open not only to Council of Europe member states, but also to third countries, creating additional opportunities to broaden global support for the Special Tribunal.
