The EU is committed to promoting maritime security to protect our seas from illicit activities.

Through the EU-funded project MUSE on maritime UN Sanctions monitoring, shipping registry compliance officers from more than 20 countries met in Malta to enhance maritime security.

This is #EUForeignPolicy in action!

International cooperation in maritime sanctions compliance is essential to avoid fragmentation, which only serves to empower bad actors.

It is an honour for @MFTmalta to welcome compliance officers, registry authorities and key partners from across the world, for the first Meeting of Shipping Registry Compliance Officers, hosted by the Valletta-based Global Centre for Maritime Sanctions Monitoring, in partnership with @UNODC.

In my opening address, I affirmed that, as a maritime nation with one of the largest ship registries in the world, Malta is committed to promoting responsible, transparent, and law-abiding shipping practices, and to advancing multilateral action for stronger maritime sanctions compliance. - Ian Borg
