This change was enacted for several reasons, but most importantly, the original chat has significantly deviated from its original purpose of facilitating discussion about the core topic, namely the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. This issue and problems regarding specific chatters made the change necessary.

Cyberattack on #NATO can trigger Article 5 and direct confrontation

At the #Singapore defense summit, Lieutenant Admiral Rob Bauer, chair of the #NATO Military Committee, announced that #NATO has decided that a significant cyber attack on a member state could trigger a war under Article 5.

If a cyber attack disrupts essential services to a point where society cannot function, it could be treated similarly to a physical attack. (Attack on critical infrastructure)

This means #NATO could collectively respond to such cyber threats, potentially leading into a direct conflict with the responsible country.

This follows a possible #Russia|n cyberattack on a Polish news agency on 31 May.

Warsaw has repeatedly accused #Russia of attempting to destabilise #Poland because of its role in supplying military aid to #Ukraine, allegations #Russian officials have dismissed.
