These verses spoke to me today. On a personal level, they are a reminder of the pernicious and insidious dangers of pride and a warning to me to live a life that is yielded to the God who is love and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
On a wider level, it is a reminder that the West has been proud and that its current madness is a judgement, to which humility and repentance are the sole remedy. Christians are commanded to pray for their leaders and I do. Living in a country run by madmen is no fun.
