Ok so I’ve been thinking a lot about this cycle and how it mirrors previous consolidations.
The current environment, with all the constant flip flopping and sentiment whiplash, reminds me a lot of the 2024 consolidation from March to November. I remember it clearly, sentiment would swing from full blown bullish to doomer bearish within hours. We only truly broke out once that stopped, once everyone got toyed with so hard that they just gave up trying to predict anything. People would get bullish on any green candle, bearish on any red. Exactly like what’s happening now.
A trader I really respect once said, “Markets only break out once people stop getting bullish on green candles.” That line stuck with me, because it’s always true. The moment everyone stops reacting emotionally to every move, that’s when we rip.
The final pump before the real breakout is always bearish, not bullish.
The difference is, back in 2024 people had a lot more patience because we were still below all time highs. It took months to wear everyone down. But as cycles mature, consolidations get shorter. People’s patience disappears faster, and that’s what creates bearish disbelief, the exhaustion phase before the next leg up.
December 2024 to March 2025 doesn’t really count, that was mostly bullish, not much chop or sentiment chaos, so I don’t think it’s a fair comparison.
All in all, I think we’re close to that bearish disbelief stage again. The patience in this ecosystem is at an all time low. I expect that to play out soon.
Obviously there’s a lot of nuance to trading psychology, and I’ve tried to cover many of those nuances in this channel over the past few weeks.
