1- Write down any ideas, words and phrases that you can think of which relate to the specific topics of your composition. Look at the mind-map below:

2- Group your ideas, crossing out any irrelevant ones, and put them into a logical order.

3- Check that your ideas are relevant to the topic(s) in the rubric. Nobody wants to see and read irrelevant ideas.

WRITING

PLANNING THE LAYOUT OF YOUR COMPOSITION

session #n4
Your ideas should be organized into paragraphs. The layout of most types of writing consists of three parts: an introduction, a main body and a conclusion. Hereโ€™s a schematic layout of a paragraph:

I) Introduction
The introduction, i.e. the first paragraph, is a short paragraph whose purpose is to give the reader a general idea of the subject of the composition. It should attract the reader's attention so that he/she wants to continue reading.

For example if you had to write about your favorite car you can start you introductory paragraph in this way:
All people have a dream to get their own car; I do too. I have one dream that when I achieved stablity in a job, I want to buy my dream car namely Bugatti Veyron.

II) Main Body
The main body usually consists of two or more paragraphs and its purpose is to develop points related to the subject of the composition. The number of paragraphs and the way you divide them depends on the specific topics of the composition. Each paragraph should deal with points related to the same topic. Whenever you discuss a new topic, you should begin a new paragraph. For example, in a โ€œfor and against essayโ€ the main body should have two paragraphs: one discussing the points for, and another discussing the points against.

In the main body of your paragraph you start proving your claims by bringing reasons. In our case we can say:

body paragraph 1:
Bugatti Veyron is fast
...........................................................................................................................(giving additional information and comparing top speed and acceleration of your favorite car with other cars).

body paragraph 2:
Bugatti Veyron is safe
............................................................................................................................(giving additional information and comparing the safety of you favorite car with other cars)

body paragraph 3:
Bugatti Veyron provides outnumbered extra features
..............................................................................................................................(giving additional information and comparing extra features your favorite car provides with other cars').

You can add to the number of paragraphs by adding to the number of your claims and proving them in each paragraph.

III) Conclusion
The conclusion is a short final paragraph in which you can summarize the main idea of the subject, restate your opinion in different words, make general comments, express your feelings, etc.

At last you don't claim something new, you have to wrap up what you have been discussing so far. In our case we can say:

As it was discussed so far, the acceleration, speed, and safety of Bugatti Veyron is unique; it also presents many additional facilities for the driver,... So, that's why it is my favorite car.

The Introductory and Concluding paragraphs can be as short as two sentences.
