โ โฃEver wondered why we call the months what we do? Wonder no longer! Here you are!
๐นJanuary is named after the Roman god Janus the god of doors.
๐นFebruary is named after an ancient Roman festival of purification called Februa.
๐นMarch is named after Mars, the Roman god of war. The Roman calendar originally began in March, and the months of January and February were added later, after a calendar reform.
๐นApril takes its name from the Latin word aperire, meaning โto openโ (just like flowers do in spring!)
๐นMay is named after the Greek goddess Maia
๐นJune is named after the Roman goddess Juno โ the god of marriage and childbirth.
๐นJuly and August were named after Julius Caesar and Romeโs first emperor, Augustus.
๐นSeptember, October, November and December are named after Roman numbers 7, 8, 9 and 10 โ they were originally the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth months of the Roman year!
๐ด Tell us about the months names in your language.
