‍ Yalda is one of the most celebrated traditional events in Iran which marks the longest night of the year.

Every year, on December 21st, Iranians celebrate the arrival of winter, the renewal of the sun and the victory of light over darkness on Yalda Night.

Family members get together (most often in the house of the eldest member) and stay awake all night long in Yalda.

Watermelon, pomegranate and dried nuts are served as a tradition and classic poetry and old mythologies are read in the gathering.

Getting a ‘Hafez reading’ from the book of great Persian poet Shamsu d-Din Muhammad Hafez-e Shirazi is also practiced in this night.

Central Asian countries such as Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kurdistan,Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and some Caucasian states such as Azerbaijan and Armenia share the same tradition as well and celebrate Yalda Night annually at this time of the year.

You should always edit your piece of writing before handing it in. In order to do this, you should make sure:

🔹 you have used complete sentences and that the words are in the correct order (i.e. subject, verb, object, etc.).

2- The shiniest of the red balls. (Identifies an object but lacks a verb which assigns any action to the object)

🔹 you have used the correct grammar (e.g. past tenses for narratives).

🔹 you do not repeat the same words, phrases, expressions, etc.
Incorrect: When I got to the bottom of the stairs, I saw that the stairs were high and steep. I took a deep breath and began to climb the stairs. When I reached the top of the stairs I looked around me.
Correct: When I got to the bottom of the stairs, I saw that they were high and steep. I took a deep breath and began to climb. When I reached the top I looked around me.

🔹 there are no spelling errors.
The neighbors are on they’re lawn. (they're is a contraction for they are)

🔹 you have used the correct punctuation. (e.g. commas, full stops, question marks, etc.)

🔹 you have indented the paragraphs (i.e. have begun the first line of each paragraph further in from the margin).
