๐๐ค Verb confusion๐ค๐
(Know, Learn, Study and take)
๐ know is used to show that you have memorized something or that you are certain of something :
๐ I know all of the irregular verbs.
โช๏ธknow described a state, not an activity ( not I'm trying to know my irregular verbs. )
โช๏ธwe can't use it in the continuous form (not I'm knowing my irregular verbs.)
๐ Learn describes an activity.
We learn facts when we try to memorize them.
๐ I am learning irregular verbs for the test.
โช๏ธwe can also learn a skill:
๐ I'm learning to play the piano.
โช๏ธwe can't use learn by itself ( not I'm learning for the test. )
๐ Study is usually used to talk about a whole subject area rather than individual skills or facts:
๐ my daughter is studying economics at university. (not I am studying how to play the piano. )
โช๏ธWe can use study by itself:
๐ I'm studying for the test on Friday
โผ๏ธNote that we can say learn about not study about:
๐ We are learning about World War I this term.
(not we are studying about)
๐ Take can be be used in a similar way to study to refer to subject area :
๐ I am taking a course in Marketing.
โช๏ธit's also used to refer to the individual subjects within a course :
๐ I have to take at least 3 marketing subjects to get the diploma.
