⭕️There are more than 1 million different word parts in use the English language, and it's growing and changing all the time. The average person's vocabulary ranges from 20,000-35,000 words.

⭕️ While it is impossible to know every English word, it is possible to expand your vocabulary by learning the pieces that make up individual words: word roots, prefixes and suffixes.

⭕️You can unlock the meanings of difficult words by learning frequently used word parts and their combinations.

⭕️Breaking words into smaller parts is an efficient and systematic method that allows you to recognize unfamiliar words and build your vocabulary more quickly than by memorization alone.

Session #n72: Opinion Essays

Opinion essays are discursive essays in which you present your personal opinion on a particular topic. Your opinion must be stated clearly and supported by justifications. You should also present the opposing viewpoint(s) in a separate paragraph.

An opinion essay should consist of:
a) an introduction, in which you introduce the subject and state your opinion clearly;
b) a main body, consisting of two or more paragraphs (each presenting a separate viewpoint supported by reasons/ examples), including a paragraph giving the opposing viewpoint supported by reasons examples; and
c) a conclusion, in which you restate your opinion using different words.

⚠️ You normally use present tenses in thist ype of Writing, and phrases such as I believe, In my opinion , I think, It seems to me that, I strongly disagree with, etc to express your opinion. You should list your viewpoints with Firstly, Furthermore, Moreover, Also, etc, and introduce the opposing viewpoint using However, On the other hand, etc.

⚠️ Opinion essays are normally written in a formal style, therefore you should avoid using colloquial expressions, short forms or personal examples. You can find this type of writing in the form of an article in newspapers, magazines, etc.

⚠️ Each main body paragraph should start with a topic sentence which clearly states the main idea of the paragraph. This should be followed by appropriate supporting sentences which justify the main idea and/ or give examples.

🐶 Pet Day 🐱

Pet Day is a chance for those of us who own pets to show them how much we love them. Now, we all can think of the traditional things: a new toy, some tasty treats, or a long walk in the park, maybe a game of fetch, assuming you have a dog! But, think outside the box and come up with some ideas to celebrate your relationship with your pet. Once you have indulged your own animals with their favourite treats, why not consider donating to a shelter or or other animal welfare organization?

There are so many neglected and unwanted animals waiting for some love and attention. You can donate your time, or you can donate food or other supplies. Every little bit helps. If you don’t already own a pet, what better time to adopt one? A good phrase to keep in mind is “adopt, don’t shop.”
