A serious security flaw has been found in Zcash’s (ZEC) Orchard shielded pool, which could theoretically allow attackers to mint unlimited counterfeit ZEC tokens—without detection.

The vulnerability was identified on May 29 using Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.8 AI model.

The Zcash Foundation has confirmed that no user funds are currently at risk and stressed there's no indication the exploit has been used. Nevertheless, development teams are racing to deploy a protocol update that will bring full transparency and end-to-end auditability to the entire ZEC supply chain.

Despite official reassurances, market sentiment has shifted sharply—ZEC has plunged 31% since the announcement.
