So what is going on with the Sun. Here is a camera capturing the sun blinking erratically. (our eyes don't really pick it up)

So what's the black thing in the middle?

"A very high intensity light causes the bias on the capacitor to surpass the breakdown voltage of the dielectric.

In layman's term, throw too much light in the capacitor, and it can not handle the load, so it fails to work.

This would cause the capacitor for that pixel to discharge and become neutral and therefore register no-light information ("black"). Hence the black dot."

That answers what but not why. The center of the sun is no brighter than the rest. So something is magnifying the light. Notice above I said "thing" not "dot". Because its not a circular dot, its hexagonal.
