One Air New Zealand flight was forced to turn around after seven hours
The FAA said the terminal would remain closed until at least 2pm on Friday.
130 flights are believed to have been cancelled since Thursday, according to Flightaware.com
The airport failure is the latest in a long list of travel headaches in the US in the last six months.
In January, the FAA's own systems went down, grounding all of America's flights, in one of the worst aviation fumbles in recent history.
The cause of the outage was down to the FAA not updating its outdated systems according to many involved.

It was not immediately clear when the incident occurred. One source told CNN the origin of the hack was still being probed.
The FBI breach is the latest in a series of high-profile U.S. government hacking incidents over the last decade. In late 2020, officials discovered a widespread cyber espionage operation within numerous federal networks by hackers tied to Russian intelligence.
