Mitsui OSK to sell older oil tankers as vessel prices surge

(Sept 17): Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd is planning to sell a few of its older oil tankers to take advantage of a surge in vessel prices as the Middle East war strains shipping capacity.

“We should not miss the opportunity,” Chair Takeshi Hashimoto said on the sidelines of the Gastech conference in Bangkok on Wednesday. “The price is quite attractive for us,” he said, adding that one to two ships would be sold per year.

MOL, as the company is known, is one of Japan’s largest owners of oil and gas tankers, and operates a fleet of more than 900 vessels overall, including bulk carriers and container ships.

The strategy offer rewards, although shipowners that sell would have less control over supply chains. The wars in the Middle East and Ukraine are disrupting normal trade routes and forcing oil producers to use complex workarounds to get crude to customers in Asia and Europe, tightening shipping capacity and sending freight rates surging.

Other shipowners are scooping up vessels to ensure that they have readily available tonnage at any time. Persian Gulf nations have embarked on a tanker-buying spree so as to assert more control over oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz.

Currently, a five-year-old very large crude carrier can sell for about US$151 million, more than a newly built one that costs US$130 million, data from Signal Ocean show. That’s because shipbuilding yards are unable to take requests for new ships until the end of this decade. A 20-year-old tanker can go for about US$71 million, a 90% increase from a year ago.

Activist investor Elliott Investment Management LP said earlier this year that it took a “significant stake” in MOL as fleet values increased, and that it planned to nudge the shipowner to sell some of its vessels in order to improve capital efficiency.
*Hormuz Crisis to Push Global Coal Demand to Record High*

* Global coal demand is forecast to rise 1.2% to a record 8.94 billion tonnes in 2026, with Chinese demand reaching about 5 billion tonnes and Indian demand 1.353 billion tonnes.
* Higher gas prices caused by reduced LNG flows through Hormuz are encouraging gas-to-coal switching, while strong El Niño conditions are adding cooling demand and reducing hydropower availability.

Towkay Talk with Kin Global Limited CEO

Kin Global Limited is Singapore's largest sports event management company and a curator of global sports events.

As we grow, we are seeking to diversify the business across a broader range of customers, projects and revenue streams. This includes expanding relationships with existing customers, developing new customer relationships, pursuing opportunities across both EDM and D&B, and building recurring and multi-year engagements.

Our move into areas such as sports and IP-led events also provides another avenue to diversify our revenue sources beyond traditional client-led projects.

That said, given the nature of our industry, large projects may continue to result in some level of customer concentration in individual reporting periods. Our longer-term objective is therefore to broaden the overall portfolio so that the Group becomes progressively less dependent on any single customer or project.

Geo Energy Expects a Substantial Increase in Net Profit for 3Q2026 with Higher Sales Volumes, Higher Selling Prices and Significant Logistics Cost Savings from MBJ; Finalising ResInvest’s Investment in MBJ with Valuation of US$1.5 Billion

https://geoenergy.listedcompany.com/news.html/id/2628445
RHT Capital has published an initiation report on Geo Energy Resources Limited (SGX:RE4).

Summary on Geo Energy:

Structural cost reset, not a coal-price bet. The MBJ integrated haul road + barging chain (capex ~US$150mil) removes third-party trucking on TRA (Triaryani) coal and takes US$7-8/t out of the annual cost base.

A large, long-life anchor. TRA holds ~300Mt 2P, the core of a group reserve base that supports a ~12–15-year mine life at the planned 20–25 MTPA run-rate.

Cheap on a rebound year — with leverage to upside coal price.

The swing factor is Jakarta, not Hormuz. Danantara/DSI consolidation, FX-retention rules (100% retained; ≤50% IDR-conversion cap retained), royalty/HBA linkage and the RKAB/DMO regime drive the downside case.

We initiate coverage of Geo Energy with a BUY and an intrinsic value of S$0.69, 24% upside to the current S$0.555 share price.

World’s top coal exporter strains to lift output as prices soar

Indonesia, the world’s biggest coal exporter, is failing to tap into soaring prices for the fuel as countries look to offset reduced natural gas supplies from the Persian Gulf.

At a conference in Bali, which is the highlight of the local industry’s calendar, traders are confronting some of the tightest supply conditions in years. Exports fell to a five-year low this month following the slashing of mining quotas by the government as well as low water levels at key barging rivers, DBX Commodities said in a note.

That comes as coal consumption is set to hit a record this year as demand is bolstered by higher gas prices — due to the near-closure of the Strait of Hormuz — and a strong El Niño that’s increasing air-conditioning requirements, according to the International Energy Agency. Indonesian coal buyers, including China, South Korea and Japan, have already been observed switching from gas to coal in their power mix.
*10 in 10 with Skylink – Beyond Leasing: Scaling an Integrated Mobility Ecosystem*
https://www.sgx.com/research-education/market-dialogues/20260929-10-10-skylink-beyond-leasing-scaling-integrated

We believe Skylink’s value proposition rests on three key areas: recurring earnings, an integrated growth platform, and disciplined execution. In FY2026, Commercial Vehicle Leasing contributed about 74% of Group revenue, while around 91.1% of active leasing contracts carried minimum commitments of one year or longer. The Group generated S$12.89 million of net operating cash flow, while adjusted net profit attributable to shareholders increased 61.1% to S$4.42 million, excluding the one-off reverse takeover (RTO) listing expenses and non-cash RTO accounting effects. The balance sheet was also strengthened following the RTO and placement, with total assets of S$129.81 million and equity of S$16.98 million as at 31 March 2026.

We believe investors may not fully recognise that Skylink is building more than a vehicle fleet. It is developing an integrated platform that can generate income at several points in a commercial vehicle’s working life.

As Commercial Vehicle Leasing, Credit and Engineering scale together, the same customer relationships and asset base can support multiple revenue streams, strengthen customer retention and create greater operating leverage. This self-reinforcing mobility ecosystem provides Skylink with multiple avenues for sustainable growth and longer-term shareholder value creation.
