*TSC INTERN INTERVIEWS FAIL TO ATTRACT INTERVIEWEES*

TSC intern interviews for bgm schools has been on going in various selected centers.
The interviews have been characterised with low turn out .
Some schools have even missed those to be interviewed .
Other cases graduands of last year and this year are the ones that turned up.

Its shocking in country with the highest unemployment rate to experience low interview turnout.
Something is wrong somewhere.

I was in attendance in one center as a panelist.
After the TSC subcounty addressed the applicants a dozen of them just left.

THE *DIRECTOR'S*
Highlighted the following.
1) Interns are to earn 15k for sec schools. And 10 k for pri schools.
2) They are to work for one year and incase of replacement vacancies they shall not participate.
3) Any other TSC vacancies in the course of the year contracted interns shall not be elligible.
4) The money they shall earn shall be subject to tax. NHIF . NSSF
Insurance cover and HELB loan deductions.
Compared to Boms where some get above 20 k NET untaxable many of them saw this as a raw deal.

On permanent employment " the director told them that it will not be automatic but in future TSC interns will be awarded more marks.

It Was for these reasons many of them left despite many having applied in dozens. Each school had a TSC short list of over 20 applications.

Many who had benchmarked with PSC where interns get 25 k
the TSC was just unattractive.

Pls tell them to turn up for interview.
Its sad to sit in a panel and end up interviewing no body.

For our school we were lucky out of 25 apolicants for Eng Lit only two turned up .

We took one and the other one Was taken by our sister school.

*i think we should resist this internship thing*

*KUPPET AND KNUT SOLD TEACHERS TO THE DOGS*

To understand this, let's go to the basics.

We must be cautious as we continuously praise and protect Tsc. Its an hyena that is known to eat its own children since 1967. Kuppet please, don't go to bed with the hyena. You are in a marriage of convince with the beast that gonna eat you and your children in the fullness of time. Teachers are celebrating death of KNUT because it has messed them up terribly in the last 7years plus. Knut sold teachers to the dogs through AON medical cover! Teachers cried and pleaded with Knut to listen to their grievances but they never bothered. Why? They had better things to do in Parliament and most importantly they were sure of refiling their huge stomachs through teachers monthly deductions. If teachers elected you as their union leaders to fight for their rights, what business do you have in Parliament and BBI? Did teachers endorse your nomination as MPs? What have you brought back home to teachers after being mps for all those yrs...not even a single teacher friendly bill. Nyinyi ni Bure kabisa. Things went south immediately you went to politics and Parliament in particular. You no longer care about teachers. You led teachers to protest against CBC, they got interdicted, went through a painful disciplinary process and some sacked. All this time, Knut was quite and eating teachers money. Sossion endorsed (technically inked) AON medical cover after receiving a handsome kickback from the same. Reports has it that he also benefits through Bliss medical facilities which is a major Aon agent. Union officials don't like discussing Aon scam and and that's why they never visit your schools as they used to do before. For union officials to be in the Aon payroll, they had to sacrifice teachers. Using the kickback from the scam, they have hired minions like amunga and others to vouch for tsc and Aon. AON wametesa walimu and some have died. After treating you, some hospitals like Nairobi women's shamelessly warn you not to get sick before one week is over after the initial treatment otherwise they won't attend you. AON discriminate teachers unapologetically. In fact it was a scam from the word go. Many teachers flocked into Kuppet and Knut offices to express their frustrations as far as AON was concerned but as usual, the useless, greedy demonic despots couldn't listen to them. AON has been RAPING teachers for all those years and the two unions know it. That's why in some schools, union officials were almost stoned. The bitterness and grievances teachers have are so many. Unlike before when union officials could go to schools frequently to meet teachers and listen to their grievances, upon selling teachers to the dogs (aon) and nomination to Parliament, they have no time for that.

KUPPET you are not any better. You were party to AON scam just like your fellow despots in Knut. The SG got parliamentary nomination and got less concerned with teachers grievances. You have no time to address teachers interdiction cases and other grievances on the ground. When did the union officials visit your school last? They employed Withdrawal strategy to avoid facing angry teachers. Your officials are too arrogant. Going to bed with tsc was your last nail on your coffin. Mark my words. Tsc has been oppressive since 1967. What has changed that you have started praising it? You mean you can bend that low to be flower girls of a RED HYENA that has eaten teachers ever since? My take is that the 2 unions have unapologetically messed teachers. THEY SHOULD DIE A NATURAL DEATH. All teachers need to do is to go back to the drawing board and come up with 3rd way option (new Union) that will be formed on condition that it will fight for teachers rights and better terms and working conditions. Teachers have suffered enough and can't be fooled any more.
Somebody is whispering that teachers will suffer without a union! This is a nonsensical argument because they have suffered immensely in the hands of the two Unions for the last 7 years+. If anything it will be a continuation of s
uffering. The unions have simply become useless. You can't eat people's money and not fight for them adequately. Enough i s enough. Teachers have not run out of options. They are the womb that gave birth to Knut and kuppet and the womb is still very FERTILE. teachers are not morons, they went to school and they cannot just wake up one day and disown a once vibrant union(s) just like that! There must be a problem. Tsc may take advantage of the crisis between unions and its members and kill kuppet too. Learned friends, killing of Knut by tsc and disowning of Knut by its members is a coincidence. Its like a case where one is planning to kill his own dog and in the process it's hit by a speeding vehicle. This becomes a blessing in disguise. You can't and will NOT burn the hand that has been feeding you for all those years. Teachers are tired and you can't RAPE them any more. Shame on you KUPPET. Teachers know why you are praising tsc and supporting the Aon scam. It won't be business as usual. After Knut is dead, kuppet will die too.The curse and blood of teachers who are suffering and have died is on you. You will never know peace.

*Soyinka Lempaa declares more war with Tsc*

He writes....

Teachers Service Commissions is run by interesting persons ...They want to employ teachers on contracts and underpay them. A secondary teacher to earn Kshs 15 000/ & a primary teacher to earn Kshs 10,000.

We are going to fight this in court ..Yes!. The National Gender and Equality Commission and salaries commission will have to be joined in this ....

The Salaries and Remuneration Act says that people should be given equal pay for work of equal value. A graduate teacher earning Kshs 15000 is a mockery of and transgression of the constitution and the law.

A member of Parliament earns Kshs 851 000 and when you divide this by 15000 one MPs salary can employ 57 teachers! This is a joke and going by the current inflation and economic status, a commission that is supposed to protect people's rights is actually oppressing them

As this is happening National Gender and *Equality Commission* that only fights for the rights of elite women in urban centers is loudly silent as they earn hundreds of thousand in salaries .

We must, like advised by Wangari Maathai be like the humming bird and try to make *small contribution towards achieving social justice* and equality and equity. We must remind Constitutional commission that they must do their work ...

The problem however, the commissions have been captured by political failures like Florence Kajuju and Priscilla Nyokabi who have gone there as obscurantists and enemies of the people..

We shall fight TSC and any other constitutional commission that fetters its mandate or discretion. *Start trembling Teachers Service Commission* as for every illegal move you make shall be countered by robust defense of the constitution....

Mr Lempaa just won another case ordering TSC to remove age limit in teacher recruitment.

*THIS INTERNSHIP THING IS LIKE THE RUSSIAN ROULETTE*

Good evening my fellow interns. As at now a good number of us have secured their jobs. Kuddos! Hongera!.

Those who are attending the interviews tomorrow may your star guide you well.

Our friends who will not be lucky, God's timing is perfect.

Members since the intern thing came, we have been drawn to some hullabaloo on whether the interns will be confirmed or not. Ehehehe.. Let me state the following :

1. There is a lot that is prophesising that all the interns will be confirmed unconditionally upon completion of their terms. We all hope for this and we should also remember that this can only be true if tsc will not carry out its normal recruitment.
2. We have the second group who are saying that tsc will advertise mass recruitment next year and all the interns are free to apply and will be taken. I will sadly say that is very wrong. Any recruitment any month next year *will not* be taken by any intern. Ensure you read my accompanying photo to this write up and read the shaded part (in green)

3. The this group maintains that mass recruitment might be there next near and those who fail to taks up the interns will get a chance here.
4. The last group ( I belong) holds that after the end of internship some lucky lot wil be confirmed, but all.

*Conclusion*
1. This internship is like the famous Russian roulette, no one knows what it has in store.
2. Tsc in the advert, says that the commission will be carrying out internship program on annual basis. This simply means war. You either go for internship this time, or you wait this next year December.

Teachers with university degrees, whom the TSC has employed as interns, are earning less than some non-teaching staff at the schools where they serve, union officials have said and called for higher pay.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut), Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) and Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (Kessha) say the trainee teachers are demoralised so the contract terms should be reviewed.

The Teachers Service Commission pays interns posted to secondary school Sh15,000, which decreases to about Sh10,000 after statutory deductions.

They pay Sh1,200 for a mandatory personal accident cover while Sh3,000 is sent to the Higher Education Loans Board (Helb), Sh800 to the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), Sh600 to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) deducts Sh 600 and Sh1,741 as Pay As You Earn (Paye).

Those posted to primary schools earn an average of Sh10,000, which decreases to about Sh6,000, after a PAYE of Sh1,116 and contributions to the NHIF and NSSF.

WARNING

As such, Knut and Kuppet want the TSC to exclude the 10,300 interns from the delocalisation programme so that they work within their home counties.

Mr Malel Langat, Knut's Bomet Secretary, his Sotik counterpart Mathias Langat and their Kuppet colleagues Paul Kimetto (Bomet) and Zablon Awange (Kisumu) warned of a negative impact on the quality of education across the country.

โ€œSadly, the interns have been engaged on contracts for one year yet there is no provision or guarantee for them to be employed on permanent and pensionable terms after the expiry of the contracts,โ€ they said in Sotik on Thursday.

Mr Malel said, โ€œPresident Uhuru Kenyatta needs to personally take charge of this matter and avert a crisis, that is slowly snowballing into a disaster in the education sector, that would be very costly for the country to correct in the future."

He added, โ€œMuch as we support the governmentโ€™s efforts to create employment, the education sector is not a place for trial and error. All the trained teachers should be employed on permanent and pensionable terms."

SHORTAGE

The officials asked the TSC to set aside enough money for employment of teachers to bridge the shortage of 100,000 teachers in public schools, instead of taking a piecemeal approach in replacing those who left the service due to natural attrition.

Mr Awange said, โ€œWhen the TSC advertises vacant positions at an average of 5,000 teachers to be employed on a yearly basis, what the country is not being told is that the shortages in schools continue to widen with increased intake."

Mr Kimetto stated, โ€œWhen you pay teachers an average of 8,000 a month, you [are giving them the] minimum wage for a house-help, which is an abuse [considering] the donkey hours they gave studying for years and the cost of their education.โ€

Mr Langat said, โ€œBesides the deductions, the interns have to pay rent, cater for their own transport, food, clothing and other incidentals, and provide for their families."

A principal who did not want to be named said the interns were demoralised.

"It is affecting service delivery. Some of them cannot make ends mee
t and are from far-flung counties. Watchmen in our institutions earn better than they do."

'NO SENSE'

In a separate statement, Kuppet's national vice chairman Julius Korir and Bomet Central MP Ronald Tonui, the unionโ€™s assistant national treasurer, said it was not economical to post the trainee teacher to far-off counties.

โ€œWhen you hire teachers as interns, with a paltry gross salary of Sh 15,000, then post them outside their regions, they will not be motivated to work hard as the money cannot sustain them," Mr Tonui said, adding the low pay renders the engagement unworthy as it does not make economic sense.

Mr Sammy Chelanga, Kuppet's secretary in charge of tertiary institutions, and Narok branch secretary Charles Ngeno regretted the requirement for the personal accident cover and the interns "do not have money in the first place".

Mr Chelanga said the quality of education in public schools was highly compromised by the shortage of teachers hence the need for a serious solution by the government.

โ€œPartial employment of teachers, especially to replace those who leave service due to natural attrition, is not a solution to the shortage problem, coupled with the fact that there has been sharp rise in the number of schools and learners across the country."

SURVEY

A survey the TSC conducted in 2018 found a shortage of 10,000 teachers, a major challenge as the government seeks to achieve 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary school, and then to colleges.

The commission, in the report titled โ€˜National Staffing Position in Post Primary Schoolsโ€™said Bomet and Migori were most affected, with teacher shortage ra
