BREAKING: 🟠 Coinkite has issued a security alert for Coldcard Mk3 users. If you created a seed on a Mk3 with firmware 4.0.1 (March 2021) or newer, your funds may be at risk.

The vulnerability stems from a flaw in the device's random number generator during seed generation.

Note: Mk4, Q, and Mk5 devices are unaffected.

Coinkite states that if you used a BIP-39 passphrase in addition to your seed, the risk is minimal. If not, you should transfer your funds to a new wallet using a seed generated on a secure, unaffected device.

Take precautions—start with a small test transaction, confirm the new wallet receives it correctly, then proceed with the remainder. Further updates from Coinkite’s ongoing investigation are expected.

Coinkite has issued a security alert for Coldcard Mk3 users running firmware 4.0.1 (March 2021) or newer: a flaw in the random number generator during seed creation could put funds at risk.

Devices unaffected include the Mk4, Q, and Mk5. The risk is significantly reduced if you used a BIP-39 passphrase. Otherwise, it’s recommended to move your funds to a new seed on a secure, unaffected device.

Start with a small test transaction to confirm the new wallet works before transferring the remainder.
