General Committee of Public Instruction (GCPI):

Macaulay's Minute on Education, which laid the foundation for English education in India, was approved on February 2, 1835. It was presented by Thomas Babington Macaulay, a British historian and politician, and subsequently approved by Governor-General William Bentinck.

The first formal teacher training school, or Normal School, was proposed in 1793 at Serampore, Bengal, by Carey, Marshman, and Ward. These institutions were established to provide standardized training for teachers, preparing them for their roles in education.

William Carey was appointed as the Bengali teacher at Fort William College in 1801. He was later appointed as professor of Bengali and Sanskrit, and he also taught Marathi.

In 1896, an experimental school was established by John Dewey at the University of Chicago. This school, known as the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, was designed to be a "laboratory" where his progressive educational ideas could be tested and refined. Dewey's philosophy emphasized hands-on learning, practical experience, and a focus on the child's social development.

The Pre-University course of education was primarily recommended by the University Education Commission (1948), also known as the Radhakrishnan Commission. This commission, chaired by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, focused on integrating secondary and higher education, leading to the foundation of the Mudaliar Commission. The commission's main recommendations included a 12-year pre-university education system and the introduction of intermediate colleges for classes IX, X, XI, and XII. It also suggested English as the medium of higher education.

The Mudaliar Commission, also known as the Secondary Education Commission, recommended the establishment of multipurpose schools. This commission, established in 1952-53, aimed to improve secondary education in India. The Mudaliar Commission, chaired by Dr. Lakshmanswami Mudaliar, advocated for these schools to provide a wider range of educational and vocational opportunities for students.

Shikshar Herfer," meaning "Vagaries of Education," was written by Rabindranath Tagore. It was one of his early essays on education, published in 1892. The essay was a critique of the colonial education system imposed by the British in India. Tagore expressed concerns about the growing gap between the educated elite and the general population, and the challenges faced by vernacular education.

Nari Siksha Bhandar, a fund to support women's education, was formed by Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. He initiated this fund to support his efforts in establishing schools for girls throughout Bengal and promoting women's education.

1. Science, not the Rule of Thumb-
This rule focuses on increasing the efficiency of an organisation through scientific analysis of work and not with the ‘Rule of Thumb’ method. Management and workers should acknowledge and understand each other’s importance. Taylor also suggested the mental revolution for both management and workers to achieve total harmony.

3. Mental Revolution-
This technique involves a shift of attitude of management and workers towards each other. Both should understand the value of each other and work with full participation and cooperation. The aim of both should be to improve and boost the profits of the organisation. Mental Revolution demands a complete change in the outlook of both the workers and management; both should have a sense of togetherness.

4-Cooperation, not Individualism-
It is similar to ‘Harmony, not discord’ and believes in mutual collaboration between workers and the management. Managers and workers should have mutual cooperation and confidence and a sense of goodwill. The main purpose is to substitute internal competition with cooperation.
