MONEY, DANCE & CRISIS
... AND A SOLUTION UNDER CONSTRUCTION
We have brooded over this one for quite some time now. The pandemic hit many freelance artists and event organizers hard. Luckily, with all hygiene and safety measurements in place, we can still organize ecstatic dance meditations in Berlin. For now. Tomorrow? Who knows ...?
THERE IS A LIMIT
Obviously, just like other organizers, we have to limit the number of participants to provide enough space so we can keep the required distance. Which means: We have to ask for a higher entrance fee to make these events viable. Many people are happy to pay more. Because they can and they need to shake it out.
And there are others who cannot afford a higher entrance fee, but they need this practice just as much – or maybe even more. Ecstatic dance meditations should not be a luxury reserved for people with extra money to spend.
So, how can we survive as organizers of ecstatic dance meditations in times of crisis and still serve the low income members of a community that we helped build up over the past 10 years? We feel especially now we need the healing power of dance.
DANCE IN PROGRESS
We don't have a final solution, but we are taking action: Starting with the ecstatic dance meditation on October 30, we will reserve around 20 cheaper tickets for people with low income. Maybe more. It depends.
On what does it depend? Solidarity! We mean this kind of solidarity: If you have extra money in your pocket, consider paying more for your ticket. Even much more, if your budget allows it. To support other dancers who cannot pay a higher fee.
The better this community solidarity system works, the better we can support people with little money. While we still can go ahead and do all the background work that is needed to make all this happen (it is A LOT of work).
KEEP AN EYE OUT
Soon we will share the ticket link for next Friday's ecstatic dance meditation. It will first be the regular priced tickets. If you can, please pay more. When these tickets are sold out, we will put the sale on hold for a moment and announce when the cheaper tickets will be available. We will communicate this first in our telegram channel (https://t.me/ecstaticdancefridays).
I hope this system can bring some of you, that couldn't come because of money, back on board the ecstatic mothership.
This is our labour of love. And although it is obviously not all about the money, sometimes finances have to be considered. Especially in these meaningful times.
