What options do we really have when designing a new space or renovating an existing room?

Not many, really. Most would rely on 'intuition' and design everything by feel. It could work okay, but most of the times this approach turns out to be a real mess and you end up in a space without a clear purpose.

Another way is to sketch and plan everything out on paper or in 3d (tools like planner5d, homestyler, floorplanner). This works perfectly fine as long as you are not rushing too much and have a clear plan behind the renovation.

Finally, you could work with an interior designer, offline or online. Online options are getting more popular since the pandemic, and rightfully so. They really help save time and anyway give you a ready project in the end.
