🇦🇱 Alexandrian hierarch accuses head of Albanian Church of blasphemy, Abp. Anastasios stands his ground

— "In his report to the Holy Synod of the Alexandrian Patriarchate on the issue of the Russian Exarchate in Africa, Metropolitan Gregory of Cameroon takes aim at His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios of Albania, who he accuses of blasphemy.

The head of the Albanian Church is standing his ground however, stating simply that his stance on the Ukrainian crisis and related matters has been well known since 2019 and hasn’t changed.

Abp. Anastasios, who doesn’t recognize the so-called “Orthodox Church of Ukraine,” has continually emphasized the need for a pan-Orthodox council. And on January 8, in the wake of the creation of the Russian Exarchate in Africa, he issued another statement reemphasizing the urgent need for a council, given that the schism is expanding, as he correctly predicted it would several years ago."

🇷🇺 Metropolitan Evgeny of Ekaterinburg: QR codes make a quasi-religion

— "The head of the Ekaterinburg Metropolis of the Russian Orthodox Church believes that the introduction of QR codes has divided society.

Metropolitan Evgeny of Ekaterinburg and Verkhoturye says that QR codes are being turned into another quasi-religion. At the same time, the "code system", in his opinion, may remain even after the pandemic has been overcome.

"I am not a scientist. I am a monk and a bishop of the Church of Christ. And as a shepherd I have a duty to speak my mind. We are told that resistance to vaccination has taken the character of occultism. But in the same way, the use of QR codes is based on absolutely religious, not scientific postulates," the archbishop wrote on his Telegram channel."

🇵🇱🇺🇦 Polish Church addresses Phanar over OCU actions

— "The Polish Orthodox Church has turned to the Patriarchate of Constantinople for clarification regarding the visit to Poland of the former Metropolitan of the UOC, and now the “Metropolitan” of the OCU, Alexander Drabinko, writes the “Religiina Pravda” (“Religious Truth”).

In December 2021, Drabinko met with the Consul General of Ukraine to Krakow Viacheslav Voinarovsky. Sources in the OCU told the “Religiina Pravda” that there could be no grounds for claims since Alexander Drabinko came to Poland as a private person.

However, at the meeting between the consul and the “metropolitan”, according to the official statement, “the provision of the spiritual, cultural and educational needs of the large Ukrainian community in Poland” was discussed. The desire of the OCU representatives to “provide for spiritual needs” in the canonical territory of the Polish Orthodox Church may be a cause for concern."

For anyone having paid attention to the abortion debates over the past 40 years, what the Archbishop is saying is crystal clear. It is yet another version of “personally opposed to abortion” but “support a women’s right to choose.” If the Archbishop had been completely honest, he would have expressed himself thusly, “As a Christian, I am personally morally opposed to abortion. We should take steps to help women and children through social programs and, hopefully, that will reduce demand for abortions. But we can’t coerce women into childbearing against their wills. We must trust women to make their own decisions and we must respect their bodily autonomy.”

🇧🇾 Lukashenko: We’re brothers with Russia and Ukraine, from one baptismal font

— "On January 28, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said, addressing the Belarusian Parliament, that the West is pitting the Slavic peoples against each other. He also repeated that Ukraine should certainly return to the "fold of our Slavdom", reports RIA Novosti.

According to Lukashenko, Ukraine has become the object of behind-the-scenes trade-off.

"Ukrainians are pushed into the flames of conflict, their consciousness is broken, they are purposefully prepared for aggression. They are shaping a hostile attitude towards fraternal nations, including the Belarusians," he said in an address to the Parliament."

🇷🇺 Russian Orthodox Church Supports Tougher Punishment for Sexual Crimes Against Minors

— "The increased number of serious crimes against minors is a direct outcome of the overall deterioration of social moral standards, says priest Fyodor Lukyanov, head of the Patriarchal Commission for Family, Motherhood, and the Protection of Childhood.

He was speaking at a press conference, organized by the Commission on January 27, 2022, in connection with the case of Veronika Nikolayeva from Kostroma. Veronika Nikolayeva, 5 years old, was kidnapped in the street, raped, and murdered. Two suspects have been detained by the police, one of which has already served a sentence for a sexual offense against a minor.

Fr. Fyodor linked the tragedy to the overall deterioration of public morals. He maintained that this kind of crime is the extreme manifestation of something which is present in our everyday life."

🇷🇸 Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia: Enemies of Orthodoxy Try Hard to Split the Orthodox Church

— "In his interview with “Mezhdunarodnaya Zhizn” (International Affairs) magazine, His Holiness Patriarch Porphyry of Serbia spoke about possible ways to overcome the crisis caused by the decisions of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople.

Referring to the church situation in Ukraine, His Holiness emphasized: “Our position remains unchanged. We have rendered and will continue to render the broadest support to Metropolitan Onufry and his Church.”

In the upheavals of the late 20th century, which led to the collapse of states, “enemies of Orthodoxy – and I would say: enemies of Christianity – saw an opportunity to split the autocephalous or autonomous Churches,” the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church observed."

🇦🇱🇺🇦 Primate of the Albanian Church – to the UOC: I am sure you will win

— "In an interview with the UOJ, Metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary, Metropolitan of the UOC, spoke about a recent meeting with the Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church, Archbishop Anastasios, one of the most prominent theologians in the field of missiology.

“At the end of our meeting, he said these words to me, 'Vladyka, I see how you (he meant our Church) are enduring these difficulties, with what hope in God, with peace in your soul, without aggression.' And then he added, 'I know the history a little. And I’m sure you will win',” Archbishop Anastasios was quoted by the UOC Chancellor.

These words, says Metropolitan Anthony, may sound like the leitmotif of what is happening in Ukraine now: the Church of Christ wins in humility, in patience. And this is Her strength."
