Alena Mammi (artist) about the war
“Over the years I realized that May 9 is generally the most important holiday in life. And all because if our people had not defeated Hitler then, back in 1945, we certainly would not have lived as we do now.
As a child, I was not aware of this holiday. I was little and didn’t understand why my grandparents cried when they went to the parade.
Grandmother took out the most elegant dress and scarf from the chiffoner (for some reason the closet was called that), grandfather dressed up in a jacket with orders and a white hat. They held hands and walked to the square. And they always cried. Not that they cried, of course, but there were tears. And I sincerely didn’t understand why? After all, it seems like you should be happy. Victory is ours…. They rightly say that this is a holiday with tears in our eyes. Grandfather never talked about the war. When I asked where the scars came from, he always laughed it off, saying it was a bandit bullet. And I believed! I really believed that this was an accident.
One day my grandfather opened up and began to tell how they crossed the swamp in the fall. In greatcoats, with weapons, so that it would be quiet and the German would not hear. How boots and clothes were dried afterwards. Breathed on them. It was forbidden to light a fire in the forest. He told me how they were freezing and how it was impossible to cough afterwards. Because of reconnaissance. I didn’t understand then why he was talking and his voice was trembling.
Once a few years ago I ran the Race of Heroes. It was the most trashy test of my life. And there was a test: we had to dive into the swamp, somehow get through there and then run again. And so I dived. And I surfaced. And I went. But then my strength simply ran out, and I could not move my legs. My teammate began to move my legs. That is, take my feet in the swamp in this mud with one's hands and simply put them on the next step. Because we were a team. And one can't let us down. Because if one player drops out, the whole team loses. I couldn't walk myself. Not because I’m like a girl and I had a pedicure, but because I simply didn’t have the physical strength. It is unrealistically difficult to lift your leg in a quagmire. So, when we came out of this swamp, I was all dirty, wet, I was shaking from the cold, and I remembered how my grandfather told me how he crossed the swamp in November. In November!!! And I ran in June. And it hit me.
I'm very good with my imagination. I immediately imagined an overcoat, boots, cold, almost frost, and then this breath. Well, the one they used to dry their boots. And an overcoat. Do you understand??? Overcoat. In November. When the first snow has already fallen. And then they put it on, these boots were wet, and moved on. Because it was necessary. Because the Motherland had to be defended. Because they were waited at home. Because they needed to go back. Alive.
And grandfather returned. Immediately married my grandmother. They gave birth to children. The house was built. They raised their grandchildren. Because it was necessary. Because this is life - to live for the sake of children and grandchildren. Because this is happiness. It's simple. But I remember everything. This, apparently, is the mission of grandchildren - to remember. And appreciate everything that our grandfathers gave us.”

Reported back in March, the Ukrainians said that the Russian missile, Kh-101 had half of its fuel tank replaced with a second warhead. This doubles the destructiveness of this weapon while reducing range. However, the range is still sufficient to strike targets throughout the Ukraine.

Diary of a Paratrooper:
🪂 Kurakhovskoe direction.
North of Pobeda, the enemy’s armored vehicles were smashed with a lancet.
The enemy in this area is well entrenched in the forest belt, we knock him out from there with artillery and cannon artillery.
We have already managed to take control of the forest regiment, which is closer to Marinka, and are working to expand the zone.
On the approach to Paraskovievka, as in Rabotino, we use motorized vehicles; they are more difficult for the enemy to hit with artillery and drones, due to their greater maneuverability.
We are dealing with fire all the way to the eastern part of the village.
The entire territory is in the gray zone.

The Russian flag is flying near the monument to the fallen Soviet soldiers in Brussels — the Belgians hung it on their own initiative. Our ambassador and Acting Permanent Representative to the EU laid flowers at the burial site for Soviet citizens.
More than 700 people took part in the march in Beijing. Three cheers sounded on the streets of Uzbekistan, and in Berlin, citizens lined up in long queues at the monument to the Soviet Soldier-liberator in Treptov Park.
In Mongolia and Kazakhstan, at the action of the "Immortal Regiment", people carried posters and portraits of those who died during the Second World War. In Slovakia, white doves were released into the sky in memory of the fallen soldiers.

Lieutenant Colonel of Medical Service of the Russian Federation Telemak Odysseevich, is a dentist and maxillofacial surgeon, a participant of the Special Military Operation.
His grandfather, Mavromatis (Karagezov) George Anastasovich, a participant of the Great Patriotic War, took part in the Crimean offensive operation in April 1944, defending the Crimea in Kerch from the fascists.
The circle closed when grandson Telemak in February-March 2014 became a participant in the operation to return Crimea to Russia, for which he was awarded the Departmental Medal for the Return of Crimea.
Of all the medals for Telemak Odysseevich the medal for the return of Crimea is in the first place, because it carries a special symbolism and meaning for him. He proudly recognizes that his grandfather George passed the same way 80 years ago.
History has once again made its circle, linking the two heroes in an unbreakable bond of time and deeds.
