Goodbye ship, hello Three Gorges Dam!
The largest dam in the world
We left the cruise and arrived at the Three Gorges Dam.
Completed in 2009— such massive power generation is what enables large scale infrastructure as well as high tech industries.
The cost was $28.6 billion, and 20 years to construct, but the reality is that the benefit far out ways the cost.
It is certain that the dam has improved people’s lives through flood control as originally thought of by Sun Yat Sen (who was educated by the associates of A. Lincoln) in 1918, but simply to tame the powerful Yangtze River was not sufficient.
The US mobilization for WW2 was because of similar projects like the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).
Nations that don’t build heavy infrastructure are doomed.
By the way, the million plus people who were relocated have a much better life and you’ll hear about it in the video. It’s interesting.
As an American, I can’t wait until we can dislodge Washington DC to expand similar projects in the USA.

This is a lookout point. People are very proud of the dam. 40,000 people come every day to visit the dam in the months of May October and September.
It’s already been more than 10 years since there was a large number of western people that came to the dam. Most of the tourists are from China.

Even the stones tell the story of the Yangtze River!
🇺🇸🚂 I discovered a fascinating fact that connects America to this city: the Baldwin Locomotive engines were delivered here from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for use on the Chengdu-Hankou Railway in the early 1900’s.
🧧 America built the Transcontinental Railroad with Chinese skilled labor and later America supplied China with train engines.
We visited the Yichang Museum today.
I couldn’t help witnessing the live minds of the children playing the 2,500 year old “Go” game, known as Weiqi (围棋).
💡 Thus, discipline, concentration, and balance are ancient skills that are alive today in China.
As one of the Four Arts of ancient Chinese scholars, Weiqi is deeply linked with wisdom and strategy. This illustrates Chinese long-term strategic thinking, emphasizing preparation and creating favorable conditions, rather than immediate, difficult victories.

Yichang—- a village of….4 million people… nightlife.
I think I’m liking how the Chinese celebrate Cinco de Mayo 🤣
This city is very clean and very modern even though it has a more than 2000 year history.
And people are out and happy and dancing and riding scooters and we are just talking to random crowds of people and everybody’s laughing and being happy and friendly back to us.
That’s the danger of socialism🤣—-luring you in 🤣
We found a cool bar using Didi (uber).
Weather is great. People are funny as heck!
