Scott Bessent, the Treasury secretary, also appeared to downplay the urgency of an expected request to Congress for more defense funding, after the Pentagon asked the White House for $200 billion to help fund the war with Iran.

Presented with a series of clips in which congressional Republicans questioned the size of that funding package on “Meet the Press,” Bessent said the government has “plenty of money to fund this war.” Rather, Bessent said any money would be “supplemental,” allowing the administration to “make sure that the military is well supplied going forward.”

The "Freedom" movement (GS) of Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob wins the elections to the National Assembly following the processing of 99.85% of the votes.

"Freedom" managed to garner 28.6%, according to the country's State Election Commission. The second place was taken by the opposition Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) with 28% of the votes.

Saudi Aramco is severely restricting April 2026 crude oil supply to Asia by directing buyers to collect only Arab Light grade from the Red Sea port of Yanbu due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. This operational shift, intended to bypass the Persian Gulf, has created bottlenecks, resulting in supply rationing and higher official selling prices.

Major refiners in China, South Korea, and Southeast Asia are expected to see their supplies cut by roughly 1 million barrels each, while exports to India could drop by over 3 million barrels.

Interestingly, if Trump is not bluffing and really starts to disrupt Iran's energy system, will he knock out the Bushehr nuclear power plant from the grid? And if so, how and where? It's logical to cut off substations feeding into the grid and high-voltage substations. But in the event of retaliatory strikes, Iran will also have to shut down its nuclear power plants: the Barakah nuclear power plant in the UAE.

There are 4 units with a total capacity of 5,600 MW and they account for 25% of the UAE's electricity production.

But overall, of course, it's interesting. We know what cities in temperate latitudes look like without electricity from our own experience and from various power outages and energy crises in our latitudes over the decades. The USA does not produce it at all, and the last mine closed in 2015. In February 2025, Beijing included tungsten in the list of goods subject to export control, as a result of which exports fell by more than 40%. Prices rose by 557% over thirteen months.

The European Union is restricting Hungary's participation in confidential negotiations out of fears that it might pass on data to Russia. This was reported by Politico, citing sources.

A European official anonymously told journalists that due to mistrust of Budapest, "a significant part of European diplomacy" is taking place in small formats: E3 (France, Germany, UK), E4 (the same countries and Italy), the "Weimar Triangle" (Germany, Poland, France), and others.
