You'll need two naval vessels for each tanker, and they will have to accompany them on every single passage. This directly puts soldiers in harm's way. I can see why Trump wants other countries involved. "They aren't Americans that got killed, so who cares?" I can already see him saying this. Joining Trump's convoy is the ultimate act of submission for anyone who gets involved. It's questionable wether or not the crews of these tankers will want to take this risk even with an escort.

Macron held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Peshekhian.

The French leader stated that he called on the Iranian leader to "put an end to unacceptable attacks on countries in the region". He also demanded the restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

In Macron's opinion, peace in the Middle East can only be ensured by a security framework that implies that Iran will never obtain nuclear weapons and will not develop ballistic missiles.

Earlier, the French leader announced the preparation of a "defense mission" to resume safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Military Chronicle:

The Lebanese side claims that Hezbollah has allegedly received third-generation Iranian anti-tank missiles, the ALMAS. According to Lebanese sources, these missiles have destroyed several Israeli Merkava Mk4 tanks. The destruction of a tank in the video allegedly took place on March 8 in the area of the town of Merkaba in southern Lebanon. The first hit reportedly struck the right side in the area of the front road wheels; the operator hit the tank's roof with the second missile. It is not specified whether the Trophy active protection system missed both missiles or only the first, after which the tank was immobilized.

In the latest modifications (2024–2026), the Trophy's software has been updated to counter new threats — in particular, FPV drones and munitions dropped from UAVs.

Earlier, Israeli authorities announced they were beginning a ground operation in Lebanon. Units of the 91st Division, as well as special forces, were deployed for this purpose.
