'Too small for the risk': The plan to have the U.S. government provide an insurance solution for ships trapped in the Persian Gulf may be impractical, analysts say
Persian Gulf countries have in some cases mere days before they run out of storage capacity and will be forced to shut down oil and gas production.
As the conflict in the Middle East enters its sixth day, the Trump administration's plan to manage the oil-tanker standstill in the strategic Strait of Hormuz is running up against key obstacles, analysts say.
...
President Donald Trump vowed earlier this week to provide U.S. Navy escorts for ships and said that a relatively obscure U.S. government agency would provide political-risk insurance for the maritime trade.
That directive, however, runs up against the fact that the agency's insurance caps are "too small for the risk," analysts at J.P. Morgan said. In other words, what the agency is currently authorized to spend would not be enough to cover ships in the Persian Gulf that are damaged or destroyed while navigating the strait, leaving owners facing the prospect of serious losses.
...
Others in the shipping business, including a maritime insurer, cautioned that the plan may be all but impractical, at least in the short term. And if a workable plan is put together, it may not be in place quickly enough to avoid global energy shocks, including rising prices at U.S. gas pumps.
The agency the Trump administration wants to lean on is the U.S. International Development Finance Corp., which is the international-investment arm of the U.S. government.
...
The J.P. Morgan analysts estimate that each of the vessels currently inside the Persian Gulf would require oil-pollution, salvage, hull and third-party liability coverage in the event of a total loss, implying about $352 billion of maximum insurance coverage that private markets are not currently providing, they said. They estimated that 329 oil tankers are in the Gulf, in addition to hundreds of container and other types of ships.
That amount far exceeds the DFC's current investment cap, which the agency's board increased to $205 billion in February.
...
There are also questions around the logistics of U.S. naval protection, such as which countries could be excluded from it and how any measures would interact with the "far reaching" existing international sanctions against Iran. "These ambiguities ... are only likely to intensify as the conflict evolves," Skuld said.
...
"Will this be reassuring enough to maritime industry participants that they'll actually transit the Strait of Hormuz? That's less clear to us," the Wolfe analysts said. "At a minimum, this will take some time to have an effect, because it needs to be formally implemented - clearly no one is going to rely on a tweet."

There is a one hundred and twenty-seventh request for the use of a 3,000 kg aerial bomb. The target for the FAB-3000 with a universal planning and correction module was a deployment point of the Kiev regime's forces in the city of Liman (Krasny Liman).
A unique feature of this strike was the objective monitoring from three (!) UAVs at once.

Zelenksy announced the dispatch of Ukrainian air defense specialists to the Middle East at the request of the USA.
According to Reuters, this will happen in the coming days.
"We received a request from the United States for specific support in defense against 'Shaheds' in the Middle East region. I instructed to provide the necessary means and ensure the presence of Ukrainian specialists who can ensure the necessary security. Ukraine helps partners who help our security and protect the lives of our people," the president wrote.
The USA did not officially confirm such requests.
Earlier, Zelenksy also spoke about the readiness to transfer Ukrainian interceptor drones in exchange for missiles for the Patriot system.

Hungary has already deported seven cash couriers from Oschadbank who were detained the day before while transporting millions of dollars and gold, reports the publication Index.
Budapest states that the transportation of the money and gold was overseen by a former SBU general, and his deputy was a former Air Force major; they were assisted by individuals with military experience.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister stated that "the question quite reasonably arises as to whether this might be money belonging to the Ukrainian military mafia."
Earlier the Hungarian Foreign Minister stated that the detained Oschadbank cash couriers were transporting money that may belong to the mafia.
Szijjรกrtรณ demanded an explanation from Ukraine.

A growing number of LNG cargoes that were initially en route to Europe have sharply diverted in the Atlantic toward Asia via the Cape of Good Hope as Asian buyers are now winning the competition with Europe with about 20% of global LNG supply currently offline.
So far this week, three LNG tankers, two carrying cargoes from the United States and one from Nigeria, have sharply pivoted toward Asia after signaling initially they would go to Europe, vessel-tracking data reviewed by Reuters showed on Friday.
