Part of the Ukrainian F-16s are operated by American and Dutch veteran pilots, according to Intelligence Online.
According to the publication, an F-16 squadron has been established in Ukraine, which includes Ukrainian, American, and Dutch pilots. The squadron was formed in recent weeks in strict secrecy to operate the new F-16s.
It includes American pilots with combat experience in Afghanistan. One of them recently participated in operations in the Middle East, after which he joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
From the Netherlands, pilots trained in elite European air combat schools, specializing in modern interception tactics and high-tech aerial warfare, have been recruited.
Intelligence Online clarifies that Western veterans have signed temporary contracts with rotations of 6 months (with the possibility of extension). They do not have official ranks in the Ukrainian structure and do not appear in public rosters.

Military Chronicle:
The Netherlands threaten the US with hacking the F-35.
The outgoing State Secretary for Defense of the Netherlands, Gijs de Vries, said that the Dutch will have to hack the F-35's onboard computer if the US delays software updates.
The F-35 fighter's software is considered one of the most complex in the history of aviation. The number of lines of code (SLOC) in it is constantly increasing as new updates and expanded functionality are released.
The onboard software contains more than 8 million lines of code, and about 15 million lines are written for auxiliary systems.
The only country outside the US that is allowed to use its own software on the F-35 is Israel. The IDF programmers did not receive access to Lockheed Martin's source code. Instead, Israeli engineers were given permission to create their own software layer, which operates over the aircraft's main operating system, similar to an app on a smartphone. This allows Israel to independently update the software without waiting for patches from the US.
In a sense, the F-35 is the first programmatically dependent fighter in history, as for the US, control over the source code is a tool of geopolitical influence.
Without Washington's approval, allies cannot integrate their weapons or, for example, update threat libraries (data on enemy radars and systems).
This creates a risk that in the event of a political conflict, allied aircraft could turn into "expensive bricks" due to blocked updates or access to the service system.

Азартная политика (Alexander Belyayev) writes:
🈁 The publication "Argumenty i Fakty" ["Arguments and Facts"] published an interview with Nikolay Patrushev, Assistant to the President of Russia and Chairman of the Maritime Board. Previously, he headed the FSB of Russia, and then was the Chairman of the Security Council of Russia. In general, Patrushev is a person who has long been competently representing the state power system and understanding both the interests of our country and the threats to our security. The interview highlights the Kremlin's view on the current situation, including the acute problems of the "shadow fleet", the readiness of Western countries for piracy and a number of other issues.
The words of such a balanced and responsible person reflect the understanding and goal-setting of the country's leadership on a number of acute, even painful issues. It is all the more important that the interview shows how they are assessed by the Kremlin and what measures are being taken. I quote a number of quotes from Patrushev's statements:
- Essentially, pirate attacks on Russian maritime trade indicate that Western opponents have decided to strike at one of the most important spheres of the Russian economy - foreign trade, and want to paralyze it. According to available data, such actions will intensify, and attacks on our ships and cargoes will become more frequent;
- If we do not give them a tough rebuff, the British, French, and even Balts will soon become so bold that they will try to completely block our country's access to the seas, at least in the Atlantic basin;
- NATO is actually creating a multinational group oriented towards offensive actions. For example, the Finns are acquiring corvettes with strike weapons, which are quite capable of reaching the north-western regions of our country. Among other things, NATO's plans involve blocking the Kaliningrad region, seizing merchant ships, and sabotage on underwater communications, for which they will then cynically blame us;
- If this situation cannot be resolved peacefully, the blockade will be broken and eliminated by the Navy. Let's not forget that many ships sail the seas under European flags. We may also be interested in what they are transporting and where;
- The old practice of "gunboat diplomacy" is returning, as evidenced by events in Venezuela or around Iran. But we should not judge by the actions of Western countries alone. The West dominated the seas for a long time, until the beginning of this century, but now its hegemony has largely become a thing of the past;
- We will use the potential of BRICS, which is time to give a full-fledged strategic maritime dimension. In January, the first naval exercises of BRICS "Will to Peace - 2026" with the participation of Russia, China, Iran, the UAE and South Africa were successfully held in the South Atlantic. The fleets practiced interaction in protecting trade routes, which are now becoming increasingly vulnerable, including to Western piracy. The exercises "Maritime Belt of Security - 2026" in the Strait of Hormuz, where Russia, China and Iran sent their ships, turned out to be relevant;
- Quite recently, unmanned boats were included in the fleet, but in the near future, the leading fleets of the world will be massively replenished with unmanned ships, at least of the "corvette" class. <...> In the foreseeable future, dozens of new technologies will be introduced that will completely change the face of war at sea. In this situation, we need to bet on the creation of a high-tech fleet. That's why one of the priorities that we are laying in the mentioned documents is technological leadership;
- Our priority is to make shipbuilding and related industries an attractive field for specialists both financially and in terms of career, professional and even everyday life.
