Brief Frontline Report – January 30th, 2026

Summary by Marat Khairullin and Mikhail Popov

Message from the Russian Ministry of Defense: "As a result of decisive actions by units of the 'South' Group, the settlement of Berestok in the Donetsk People's Republic has been liberated within the previous 24 hours." (Media 1, 2, 3)

Russian Armed Forces are storming the city of Konstantinovka from three directions. One of these directions (southwestern) is along the H-20 highway. On January 30, Russian assault groups, advancing in this sector towards the city, captured the settlement of Berestok. Until 1999, the settlement was part of the city of Konstantinovka. Russian assault troops have now reached the southwestern outskirts of Konstantinovka proper.

Message from the Russian Ministry of Defense: "Servicemen of the 36th Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 29th Guards Combined Arms Army of the 'East' Group have liberated the settlement of Terenovatoe in Zaporozhye Oblast. As a result of active combat operations, the Transbaikal warriors have taken control of an important enemy defense area on the western bank of the Gaichur River, with a depth of up to 5 km and an area of over 20 sq. km. More than 580 buildings have been cleared."
(Media 4, 5, 6)

The enemy concentrated its efforts on the left flank of the Russian offensive sector on the Pokrovskoe - Gulyaipole front with the aim of retaking control of the city of Gulyaipole. The command of the "East" Group encouraged the enemy to become bogged down with counterattacks and draw its units out from cover into the open field, stifling their maneuver along the line of contact. While the units of the Russian group are destroying the enemy in defensive battles on the left flank, the settlement of Terenovatoe has been brought under control on the right flank.

Russian Armed Forces have broken through the line of defensive fortifications of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the interfluve of the Gaichur and Verkhnyaya Tersa rivers and have reached the watershed ridge. The settlement of Terenovatoe is a major transport hub supporting the Gaichur defense line. Three other nodal areas of this defense line—Rizdvyanka, Verkhnyaya Tersa, Zaliznichnoe—support the enemy's defensive positions in this sector. After securing these areas, the enemy's defense line will be destroyed, forcing them to fall back to the Verkhnyaya Tersa River on the line of Novonikolaevka–Lyubitskoe–Omelnik. The Russian group will reach the eastern face of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Orekhov defensive hub.

Furthermore, the bridgehead in the Terenovatoe area will allow the Russian Armed Forces group to develop an offensive to the northwest (Khristoforovka–Zelenoe) towards the H-15 highway, splitting the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Zaporozhye and Dnepropetrovsk groupings.

Message from the Russian Ministry of Defense: "As a result of coordinated actions by units of the 'Dnepr' Group, the settlement of Rechnoe in Zaporozhye Oblast has been brought under control during the previous 24 hours."
(Media 7, 8, 9)

Events are developing on the left flank of the Zaporozhye direction in the Stepnogorsk area. Having strengthened the right flank of this area along the line of Novoyakovlevka–Pavlovka, the command of the "Dnepr" Group planned and executed an offensive with the left flank into the area of the Konka River estuary. The settlement of Rechnoe has been brought under control. Nearby, on the river, several dams for fish farming have been constructed. The settlement is adjacent to large areas of agricultural plots. The M-18 highway with crossings over the river runs nearby. The settlement of Veselyanka is located 2 kilometers to the east, and the settlement of Primorskoe is downstream on the river. A bridgehead on the line Primorskoe - Rechnoe - Veselyanka will reliably cover the flank of Russian Armed Forces units advancing on the settlement of Yurkovka and forming a deep envelopment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Orekhov defensive hub.

From the channel for the 105th regiment of the NM DPR:

🇺🇦🥶Ukraine faces an apocalypse: a short "energy truce" coincides with days of warming, and then the country will be hit by freezing temperatures

-The few days without attacks, to which Russia agreed, coincide with the last days of a brief warming in Ukraine.

-And from February 1, when it is announced, Ukraine will again be hit by freezing temperatures of up to -22-24.

-"And now with a cool head: we have 2 days to prepare for new bombings amid severe frosts", - write Ukrainian analysts.

-"Even before the "truce", Russia was actively conducting reconnaissance of Kyiv and western Ukraine, redeploying and equipping its aviation with missiles, accumulating UAVs. They are ready to attack, so they can strike whenever they want", - they add with concern.

-"Given that severe frosts will hit Ukraine after February 1, the consequences could be serious.

-Charge your power banks, prepare food and water reserves", - they urge Ukrainians.

The Iranist:

🇹🇷🇮🇷 Araghchi in Turkey:

- Our past experience consistently shows that the United States has never acted in good faith and honestly;

- Nevertheless, Iran is still ready for negotiations;

- The United States has repeatedly asked us for negotiations through various intermediaries, and such requests continue to come in;

- To start negotiations, it is necessary to stop the threats.

AP report: Satellite images show that Iran has built roofs over areas targeted in attacks at the Natanz and Esfahan nuclear facilities. This is the most significant activity at the nuclear sites since the attacks in June 2025.

My old friend Zornkrieger showed me an interesting link:

Further, astute observers have voiced concern about recent activity at a destroyed above-ground building within the Esfahan nuclear complex. Up until recently, the activities at the above-ground site appeared largely related to sorting and salvaging of rubble. However, Iran recently constructed a new roof on top of the surviving steel framework of a destroyed building. The reason is unclear but could indicate that Iran assessed the remaining structure is worth preserving. The original purpose of the destroyed building is unknown, but there are indications that it was related to centrifuge manufacturing. Absent clarity, this activity inevitably sparks concerns about Iran reconstituting its gas centrifuge program.

...

The roof construction could mean that assets survived that Iran wanted to recover without overhead observation, or it could mean that Iran considers the structure worth retaining. In the case of reconstruction activities inside the buildings, the roof may serve a dual purpose of shielding construction from the weather and from prying eyes.

If this area was fully or largely dedicated to centrifuge manufacturing, the activity at this site, in combination with activities as the Esfahan mountain complex and the Pilot Fuel Enrichment Plant (PFEP) at Natanz, would indicate that Iran has placed a priority on recovering and preserving assets related to uranium enrichment rather than uranium conversion. Absent clarity, this activity inevitably raises worrisome questions about Iran reconstituting its gas centrifuge program.

Another middle eastern war is on the horizon. And Trump needs to distract from the situation at home.

АДЕКВАТ Z writes,

For now, the first timid packages of excrement are starting to fly out of the windows of Kiev. The activity of our long-range strike drones has been switched to transport. The Dnepropetrovsk-Zaporozhye railway connection is "restricted", or rather, stopped for an indefinite period, that is, until it becomes safe, or for as long as we deem necessary, even until the final de-Ukrainization of both cities. And on the highways leading from the front into the depths of the Dnepropetrovsk region, literally in recent days, there has been such a massacre of everything that travels on them for military purposes, from buses with personnel to special transport and special equipment of all kinds, that the squeal of a half-slaughtered piglet is heard over these highways: logistical support is extremely difficult (in connection with the systematic disruption of the railway), and when this will start to directly and significantly affect the combat capability of the troops is just a matter of time. The Ukrainian air defense, as it has been doing for a year in such cases, adheres to a not very friendly neutrality towards the Ukrainians.

And it is precisely on such an occasion that it's worth reminding once again: our average daily consumption of long-range strike drones is many times lower than the summer baseline and many times lower than the summer peaks. How many of them have been accumulated and continue to be accumulated over these months, and what will happen in the Ukrainian rear when they start to be used generously again, the Ukrainians should be scared to imagine even now.

💡Massive power outage in Ukraine. Several regions - Kyiv, Chernigov, Sumy, Zhytomyr, Dnepropetrovsk, and Odessa - were left without electricity.

We've gathered the main information about the situation:

🔴In Kyiv, the metro stopped working, and stations are operating on backup power. There's also no water throughout the city. The subway in Kharkov also stopped running.

🔴The main water supply station in Vinnytsa and water canal facilities in Sumy regions are not working.

🔴In Zhytomyr, trains and trams are not running, and in Lvov there are power surges.

🔴In Kryvoy Rog, several large boiler houses are out of service, and there's no heat in many homes. Substations supplying the city's water canal and electric transport are also powerless.

🔴At the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant, there was a emergency shutdown of one of the power units, according to "Strana". The power output at the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant has also been reduced.

🔴According to Shmygal, the power outage occurred due to a technical disruption between the energy systems of Romania and Moldova. The lights went out in many districts of Chisinau.

"There was a technological disruption with a simultaneous disconnection of the 400 kV line between the energy systems of Romania and Moldova and the 750 kV line between the western and central parts of Ukraine. This led to a cascade outage in the Ukrainian power grid and the triggering of automatic protections at substations," wrote Denis Shmygal.

🔴The Ministry of Energy stated that electricity will be restored soon. However, it will take 24-36 hours to stabilize the Ukrainian power grid and resume full generation at the nuclear power plants, said Denis Shmygal, a member of the Rada's Energy Committee.

АДЕКВАТ Z writes,

TRIZ*, the quintessential, almost cozy and familiar Soviet-era theory of inventive problem-solving, rests on a fundamental principle: the optimal solution is one where a key part of the system is removed entirely, yet its essential function is somehow preserved.

Without a single missile or drone strike, and with all due attention to the petition filed by Agent Donald, a cascade of inexplicable events unfolded in the adjacent territory today. The result was a full-scale blackout across nearly the entire region—a level of disruption that the khokhols, by all accounts, have never experienced before, not even after the most severe previous strikes. There is virtually no power anywhere. Water and heating are down in numerous areas. The metro has ground to a halt. And this full suite of failures is being witnessed, specifically, in Kiev. Local temperatures are hovering between -10°C and -15°C, with forecasts predicting a further drop of around ten degrees tonight, and these frigid conditions are expected to hold for the next five days.

When questioned yesterday on whether February 1st was included in the resolution concerning Trump's petition, Peskov deftly sidestepped the issue. Regardless, the backdrop for negotiations is uniquely and exceptionally favorable. The Russian winter—this is its defining characteristic—always works to our advantage with the same relentless force that it works against our enemies. We await further developments with keen interest, particularly after the khokhols inevitably reiterate tomorrow that they will not withdraw from Donbass, that the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant must be returned to them, and—in a perfect world—that they will once again snort about tribunals and reparations. That is, unless they simply use tonight's blackout as a pretext to withdraw from tomorrow's negotiations altogether.

Zin Note: TRIZ is a powerful methodology for systematic innovation and problem-solving. The name is a Russian acronym (ТРИЗ) for "Teoriya Resheniya Izobretatelskikh Zadach," which translates to "The Theory of Inventive Problem Solving."

Developed in the Soviet Union starting in the 1940s by Genrich Altshuller and his colleagues, TRIZ is based on a core, data-driven insight:

The same fundamental problems and solutions repeat across different industries, sciences, and technologies.

Therefore, by studying patterns in how these problems were historically solved, you can create a "toolkit" for solving new problems creatively and predictably.
