"Rosatom" starts building the third power unit of the Kursk NPP-2

Specialists of "Rosatom" have started pouring the foundation for the third power unit at the site of the Kursk NPP-2 under construction in the city of Kurchatov, said the governor of the Kursk region, Alexander Khinshtein.

“Together with the station staff, on the eve of the physical start-up of the first power unit of the NPP-2, we launched the pouring of the foundation slab for power unit No. 3,” the head of the region wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to him, the area of the entire foundation slab will be 5,3 thousand square meters. The work is divided into six sections. A total of more than 15,000 cubic meters of concrete will be needed for the foundation pouring.

Khinshtein noted that the construction is returning to the "flow method", which was not used since the times of the USSR. After the foundation pouring, the construction of buildings and the installation of equipment will begin.

Currently, at the operating Kursk NPP, power units No. 3 and No. 4 are operating, and No. 1 and No. 2 are shut down for decommissioning. The annual output of the first two new power units should be 19.5 billion kW/h. A total of four are planned to be built to replace the old ones. After the completion of all work, the total power of nuclear generation in the region will increase by 20%.

Berlin is discussing issues of joint nuclear deterrence with its European partners, Merz stated.
