Obituary.Prof. Panasyuk has made a significant contribution into formation of the basis of the theory of brittle fracture and strength of materials and he has founded Lviv School of Mechanics in this branch of science. He has conducted the original research on the stress-strain state and limiting equilibrium of elastoplastic bodies with cracks, contact problems of theory of elasticity, problems of the physicochemical mechanics of materials. He is also the author of the well-known c-model which is widely used in fracture mechanics. A great part of his studies is devoted to the development of the new methods for assessment of strength and durability of engineering materials and critical structures.

FABER (Fatigue Benchmark Repository) networking project was recently approved for funding by the COST Association. It will start from November 2024 for the total duration of 4 years. Its core idea is focused on developing tools and data sets, which can streamline research and validation of fatigue estimation criteria.

The project is open to anyone. The conditions for Europeans are more favourable, but I believe that it is still worth considering even out of Europe. To reach its goals, we need as broad participation as only possible, so that the consensus on steps taken was general in the fatigue community.
