On February 17, 2025, the second session of the journal club was held by Ms. Fatemeh Davarpoor, B.A. student in English Language and Literature, focusing on the theme of the struggle between light and darkness  in Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad.

The session began with an analysis of the symbols used in the novel and their meanings within the text. Different critical perspectives on the work were also discussed. A major topic of debate was the exploration of colonialism and its various dimensions as depicted in the novel.

Additionally, Joseph Conrad's biography was examined focusing on the way his personal experiences influenced his narrative. The session came to a close with an in-depth discussion of one of the story's central oppositions—light versus darkness—and how these elements serve as symbols for deeper meanings in the text.

This meeting served as a prelude to future events centered on this novel.

در تاریخ ۲۹ بهمن‌ماه ۱۴۰۳، دومین جلسه‌ی ژورنال‌ کلاب با موضوع جدال نور و سایه در «دل تاریکی» اثر جوزف کنراد توسط خانم فاطمه داورپور، دانشجوی کارشناسی زبان و ادبیات انگلیسی، برگزار شد.

در ابتدای این جلسه، نمادهای به کاررفته در رمان و معانی آن‌ها در متن تحلیل شد. همچنین دیدگاه‌های مختلف منتقدان درباره‌ی این اثر مطرح شد. یکی از محورهای مهم بحث، بررسی ابعاد مختلف استعمار و استعمارگری در رمان بود که از زوایای گوناگون مورد بحث و بررسی قرار گرفت. 

همچنین، بیوگرافی جوزف کنراد و تأثیر تجربه‌های شخصی او بر روایت داستان مورد توجه قرار گرفت. در بخش پایانی، یکی از مهم‌ترین تقابل‌های موجود در داستان، یعنی جدال میان نور و تاریکی، مورد بررسی قرار گرفت و هر یک از این عناصر به عنوان نماد مفاهیم عمیق‌تر در متن تحلیل شد.

این جلسه به عنوان مقدمه‌ای برای برنامه‌ی بعدی انجمن با محوریت این رمان طرح‌ریزی شده بود.

On February 23, 2025, a session on "Teaching Grammar Through Communicative Tasks" was held, featuring Professor Hossein Nassaji from the University of Victoria, Canada. The session explored the evolution of grammar instruction, the balance between explicit teaching and communicative approaches, and practical strategies for integrating grammar into meaningful classroom activities. 

Professor Nassaji discussed the historical shift from traditional grammar instruction to communicative methods and the contemporary recognition of role of grammar in language learning. He introduced key questions regarding how grammar can be effectively taught without reverting to outdated models and how it can be seamlessly integrated with communication-focused teaching. 

The Presentation, Practice, Production (PPP) framework, its advantages and limitations, and alternative approaches such as discovery-based learning and input-driven exposure were also covered during the session. Professor Nassaji highlighted the importance of communicative tasks, such as Spot the Difference, Picture Drawing, and Decision-Making Tasks, emphasizing their role in fostering interaction and negotiation of meaning. 

Additionally, strategies for embedding grammar within tasks were presented, including integrating grammar instruction before, during, and after communicative activities, as well as designing tasks that naturally elicit target structures. The discussion underscored the need for a balanced approach that promotes both fluency and accuracy in language learning.

در تاریخ ۵ اسفند ۱۴۰۳، نشست علمی برخط با موضوع «روش‌های نوین آموزش گرامر» با حضور پروفسور حسین نساجی، استاد دانشگاه ویکتوریا کانادا، برگزار شد. در این نشست، پروفسور نساجی به بررسی تحول آموزش گرامر، تعادل بین تدریس مستقیم و غیر مستقیم، روش‌های ارتباطی معلم و زبان‌آموز و راهکارهای عملی برای ادغام گرامر در فعالیت‌ها کلاسی پرداختند. 

ایشان درباره‌ی تغییرات تاریخی در آموزش گرامر، از روش‌های سنتی به سمت رویکردهای ارتباطی، و در نهایت پذیرش مجدد نقش گرامر در یادگیری زبان سخن گفتند. همچنین به پرسش‌های کلیدی پیرامون چگونگی آموزش مؤثر گرامر بدون بازگشت به مدل‌های قدیمی و راه‌های ترکیب آن با آموزش مبتنی بر ارتباط پرداختند. 

در ادامه، چارچوب "ارائه، تمرین، تولید" (PPP) و مزایا و معایب آن بررسی شد و رویکردهای جایگزین از جمله یادگیری مبتنی بر کشف و مواجهه با ورودی‌های زبانی مورد بحث قرار گرفت. پروفسور نساجی بر اهمیت فعالیت‌های ارتباطی نظیر یافتن تفاوت‌های فردی تأکید کردند و نقش آن‌ را در ایجاد تعامل مثبت تشریح نمودند. 

علاوه بر این، راهبردهایی برای ادغام گرامر در فعالیت‌های کلاسی ارائه شد که شامل توجه به گرامر پیش از انجام فعالیت، در حین انجام فعالیت و پس از آن بود. همچنین طراحی تکالیفی که به طور طبیعی موجب استفاده از ساختارهای گرامری هدف می‌شوند بررسی شد. در نهایت، این نشست بر ضرورت اتخاذ رویکردی متعادل تأکید داشت که همزمان روانیِ گفتار و دقت زبانی را در یادگیری زبان تقویت کند.

On February 27, 2025, a webinar on "Silence and Speaking in Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness" was held, featuring Professor John G. Peters from the University of North Texas. Professor Peters explored how Conrad’s novel uses both silence and speech to reveal deeper layers of meaning, particularly in relation to colonialism, human nature, and the limits of communication. Through Marlow’s fragmented storytelling, the novel highlights the tension between what can be said and what must remain unsaid, illustrating how silence itself becomes a form of expression when words fail to capture the horrors of imperialism and the darkness within the human soul.

Professor Peters also examined the character of Kurtz, whose powerful voice portrays both authority and emptiness, showing how language can be used to mask moral corruption. Meanwhile, Kurtz’s final whispered words, "The horror! The horror!", embody how ultimate truths often lie beyond the reach of language. The session concluded by emphasizing how Conrad’s use of silence invites readers to engage actively with the text, filling in the unsaid with their own interpretations, making Heart of Darkness a timeless exploration of the power—and limits—of speech and silence.

در تاریخ ۹ اسفندماه ۱۴۰۳، نشستی برخط با عنوان «سکوت و سخن در رمان دل تاریکی اثر جوزف کنراد» با حضور پروفسور جان پیترز از دانشگاه شمال تگزاس برگزار شد. در این جلسه، نقش سکوت و سخن در ساختار روایت و پیشبرد مفاهیم کلیدی رمان بررسی شد. پروفسور پیترز توضیح دادند که چگونه کنراد با تلفیق سکوت و گفتار، مرزهای زبان را به چالش می‌کشد و نشان می‌دهد که برخی از تجربیات انسانی و فجایع استعمار، فراتر از ظرفیت زبان برای بیان هستند. روایت چندلایه‌ی مارلو و سکوت‌های معنادار او، به‌ویژه در مواجهه با خشونت و تاریکی درون و بیرون، از جمله مباحث مورد تاکید بود. 

در ادامه، شخصیت کرتز و جایگاه صدای پرقدرت و در عین حال ضعیف او در متن بررسی شد. پروفسور پیترز اشاره کردند که کرتز با وجود فصاحت کلام، در نهایت با دو کلمه‌ی «وحشت! وحشت!» سکوتی عمیق‌تر از هر سخن را رقم می‌زند و این شاید بیانگر ناتوانی زبان در مواجهه با حقیقت است. در پایان نیز، اهمیت سکوت در این رمان به عنوان ابزاری برای مشارکت فعال خواننده و پر کردن خلأهای معنایی متن مطرح شد. جلسه فرصتی را فراهم ساخت تا ابعاد کمتر گفته شده‌ای از این اثر ماندگار و تأثیرگذار شناخته شود.

On March 3, 2025, English Students’ Association of the University of Kashan, in collaboration with the Handicrafts Students’ Association, held a workshop titled “Creating Haft-Sin Tableware Using Artificial Stone Techniques.”

The workshop was led by Ms. Farahdoost,
a skilled instructor in the field of visual arts, and was attended by a group of students from different faculties. Participants had the opportunity to learn how to create decorative Haft-Sin tableware using the new technique of artificial stone crafting —a contemporary method for producing both tableware and sculptures.

The workshop was held at the House of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the Faculty of Literature and Foreign Languages and was part of the center’s ongoing efforts to improve creativity and enhance students’ artistic skills. Given the popularity of handicrafts both in Iran and around the world, learning this art form could potentially serve as a source of income for those interested in handicrafts.

The handmade Haft-Sin items created during the workshop will be displayed on the Haft-Sin table of the faculty, showcasing students’ craftsmanship. This creative initiative, alongside academic activities, not only helps develop students’ practical skills but also promotes a sense of joy and vibrancy within the university community.

در تاریخ ۱۳ اسفندماه ۱۴۰۳، کارگاه آموزشی «ساخت ظروف هفت‌سین با استفاده از تکنیک سنگ مصنوعی» به همت انجمن علمی انگلیسی دانشگاه کاشان با همکاری انجمن علمی صنایع دستی برگزار شد.

در این کارگاه که با حضور سرکار خانم فرح‌دوست، مربی توانمند در زمینه‌ی هنر‌های تجسمی، برگزار شد جمعی از دانشجویان از دانشکده‌‌های مختلف حضور داشتند و ساخت ظروف سفره‌‌ی هفت‌سین را با استفاده از تکنیک سنگ مصنوعی یاد گرفتند. این تکنیک روشی جدید برای ساخت ظروف و مجسمه‌ها می‌باشد.

این کارگاه که در سرای نو‌آوری و کارآفرینی دانشجویان دانشکده‌ی ادبیات و زبان‌های خارجی برگزار شد، یکی از برنامه‌های این مرکز برای توسعه‌ی خلاقیت و مهارت‌های هنری دانشجویان بود. با توجه به محبوبیت صنایع دستی در ایران و جهان، یادگیری این هنر می‌تواند یک منبع درآمد برای علاقمندان به صنایع دستی باشد.

ظروف هفت‌سین ساخته شده در این کارگاه که هنر دست دانشجویان است در سفره‌ی هفت‌سین دانشکده به نمایش گذاشته خواهد شد. این اقدام خلاقانه، در کنار فعالیت‌های علمی، نه تنها به توسعه‌ی مهارت‌های دانشجویان کمک می‌کند، بلکه باعث تقویت روحیه‌ی نشاط و شادابی می‌شود.
