Ethiopian Red Cross Society Acknowledges Support and Solidarity at the Launch of the School of Humanity
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) extends its heartfelt appreciation to all government officials, partner National Societies, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), ambassadors, and representatives from various international and national NGOs who took part in the launching ceremony of the ERCS School of Humanity.

Abera Tola also extended special gratitude to IFRC and ICRC for their unwavering support from the inception of this initiative to the present. “Your support and promise have great value. Your technical and financial contributions, as well as your dedication to strengthening humanitarian efforts, are deeply acknowledged and appreciated,” he said.

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society, in partnership with the Austrian Red Cross, has successfully implemented the Multisector Emergency Support for Lifesaving and Leading to Resilience (MESELAL) project in Tenta and Dessie Zuria woredas of South Wollo and Jara IDP Camp in North Wollo. This project focuses on providing critical support to vulnerable households affected by conflict and drought, with a focus on women and girls.
This 18-month project, launched on December 01, 2023, has provided cash assistance of 21,000 Birr each to 2,560 households. Additionally, 120 women have been supported through Self-Help Groups, and 120 households have received livestock assistance. The project has also distributed menstrual hygiene management (MHM) products to 1,200 women and girls, rehabilitated seven water points, and reached over 37,000 people with ambulance services and hygiene & sanitation awareness initiatives.
The project, with a budget of about 150 million Birr, aims to help communities restore and sustain their livelihoods and build long-term resilience. The efforts have greatly improved water access, strengthened community bonds, and helped build sustainable businesses for the future.
