Embroil- involve (someone) deeply in an argument, conflict, or difficult situation.

Emanate- to produce or show something; to come out from a source;

Scupper- sink (a ship or its crew) deliberately

Purported- that has been stated to be true or to have happened, although this may not be the case

Formidable- causing you to be quite frightened; difficult to deal with; needing a lot of effort.

Dodge- to move quickly in order to avoid somebody/something; a clever way of avoiding something

Contrived- hard to believe; not natural or realistic

Heaved a sigh of relief- to relax because something one has been worrying about is not a problem or danger anymore

Ardent- showing strong feeling; passionate & enthusiastic

Abysmally- in an extreme and bad way

Eloquent- able to use language and express your opinions well, especially when you speak in public; giving clear and strong message
