Niantic is committed to safety and fair gameplay for Ingress. Over the past several weeks we have worked to identify users, administrators, and creators of tools indicated in recent scraping incidents. As a result, we continue to enforce our Terms of Service in the following ways:
- Terminating the accounts and revoking access to Ingress for the creators, administrators, and financiers of scraping tools storing or serving identifiable information of Ingress users without those users’ permission.
- Banning the accounts of players using these scraping tools who have also received prior warnings or have documented TOS violations.
- Temporarily suspending (for 30 days) the accounts of players using these tools, followed by 180 days of account probation.
Using data, systems, or tools designed to negatively impact the player community through extracting, scraping, or indexing Ingress data in violation of our Terms of Service is prohibited. We will continue to take appropriate action against violators of our TOS as supporting evidence arises or as found by our own investigation. We would also like to see the community promote positive and constructive actions as we work together and move forward. Remember that which unites us as Ingress Agents is far greater than that which divides us as Agents of a faction.

Every year people produce 300 million tons of plastic and more than 8 million tons are dumped into the sea water. This fact motivated ENL Agent @LeonKowalski for his New Year's resolution to avoid using plastic products as much as possible and to pick up trash whenever he sees it around the portals. He is also a dedicated sailor and benefits from the sea water for the recreation, visiting portals, and food supply, and initiated movement sailandsweep. Andrew Krug replied in a comment at G+ to complaints about the current information regarding the (not?) upcoming events in Q1/Q2 2018. He writes:
Unfortunately, plans change and it can be hard at times to give concrete answers as the best laid plans can often go astray. I can say though with a high degree of certainty, over 90%, that in the coming weeks there will finally be an answer on what is going to occur as it relates to Ingress events. Specifically, the when and where and with a healthy dose of advance notice.
I've seen the plan personally myself and know it was approved. This is more than has occurred in the past when were just in the planning stages. Events aren't being paused because of Ingress prime. But the immediate events might be slightly different than traditional events to leverage the anticipated influx of new players and to get veterans back in the swing of things before we launch a more traditional event format. Stay tuned. I think a lot of people will be happy with the information that is going to come out.

NIA researchers are hard at work uncovering the nature, locations and dates of future Ingress XM Anomalies.
At this stage, we can confirm that there will be no city-specific XM Anomalies during the first quarter of 2018. However, a new kind of Faction versus Faction global XM event is predicted to manifest in March. Additional details of this event will be released in the coming weeks.
We expect our research, which will yield a complete list of Anomalies that will be occurring through May of 2019, to be completed by February 13th. We anticipate needing your assistance at that time in compiling the full information from the portal network.

- Nia Ops are reviewing POC (point of contact) nominations for the upcoming events
- Niantic reserves the right to refuse anyone for any reason
- TOS violations will result in 12 months (Anomaly) and 6 months (other Ingress events) exclusion from being eligible for POC duties from the date NIA OPS took action against the Agent
- Vanguards will be assisting Niantic in collecting the nomination information from the various communities
The post also includes a complete list of all 24 Vanguards (12 ENL and 12 RES).

Niantic has changed the rules for the global competition regarding the Portal count. They will reward the faction which gained the higher increase in portal ownership worldwide with 5 points each Saturday 6 PM UTC.
The current state of ENL 1 705 203 vs. 1 797 219 RES is the base for the first measurement on March 17. The measured state of that time will be the base for the next delta and so forth.
