The Australian Government is considering changes to electricity metering that would see smart meters deployed much more widely by 2030 – and you can have a say about it.

The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) has released its plans in draft form and is seeking submissions until 30 May 2024.

The draft legislation sets out details about how the accelerated smart meter installation can be achieved. At present it will apply to New South Wales, Queensland, Australian Capital Territory and South Australia. (Victoria already has almost universal smart meter coverage; Tasmania has its own accelerated smart meter program and Western Australia and Northern Territory have their own meterage regulations.)

Most smart meters emit radiofrequency (wireless) radiation, but there will still be an option for using Type 4A non-communicating meters.

EMR Australia believes there are some significant flaws in the draft legislation.

One of our readers has written to say:

‘Here, we've had drought and a lot of WIFI and solar installations. There used to be myriads of honeybees, mason bees, and a colony of bumblebees. Now there are just a few, along with only a few songbirds. The butterflies and dragonflies are all gone. Even the flocks of crows have moved elsewhere. I miss them all.’

We do, too, dear reader.

Sad to say, wireless radiation can harm insects and the higher 5G frequencies are thought to be even more dangerous for them.

What happens when a mobile phone user is exposed to the gamma radiation used by diagnostic and cancer treatment technologies, or lives in an environment of relatively higher ionizing radiation?

The first study ever to look at the effects of gamma radiation and real-life mobile phone signals on human blood cells has just been published – and it sheds new light on why international safety limits need to be urgently updated to protect us.

The study’s author, Dr Dimitris J. Panagopoulos from the University of Athens, says that both gamma radiation and mobile phone radiation are genotoxic [causing DNA damage], with gamma radiation being more genotoxic and a known human carcinogen. But when you put them both together, the effects are even more profound.

What causes a perfectly health woman to become so sick she can’t bear to stay in her home?

In the case of this 52-year-old woman, it was the radiofrequency radiation from a 5G mobile phone tower opposite her home.

The woman, who had medical training, was in good health, even though the base station had 4G antennas installed on it.

However, when the 4G antennas were replaced by 5G antennas, her health seriously deteriorated, according to Professor Lennart Hardell and Mona Nilsson, writing in the Annals of Clinical and Medical Case Reports.

St Albans in Hertfordshire is attempting to become the first UK city to go smartphone-free for all children under 14.

Before St Albans, it was Greystones in Ireland last year, where parents banded together to collectively tell their children they could not have a smartphone until secondary school.
