🧠 The one thing I wish I knew when I started teaching…

💎➡️ When I was a new teacher, I believed I needed to:

💯 Plan perfect lessons
🗣 Talk all the time to "keep it flowing"
🧾 Stick to the plan, no matter what
🎯 Focus on grammar over connection
Correct every single mistake in class

But here’s what I wish someone had told me:

💎➡️ 💡 Connection > Perfection
The magic doesn’t come from perfect lesson plans. It comes from:

Listening to students more than speaking at them
Creating a safe space to try, fail, and try again
Letting silence be okay — learning takes time
Being flexible and human — even mid-lesson
Sharing a laugh, a story, or a cultural moment

💎➡️ What I’ve learned:

✔️ It’s OK to change the plan when students need something else.
✔️ You don’t have to know it all. Be curious with your learners, not above them.
✔️ Teaching is a conversation, not a performance.

🌱 If I could go back and tell my first-year self one thing, it would be:

📌 “You’re allowed to grow. So are your lessons.”

📱 Every Child Deserves a Champion – Video by Rita Pierson

🧠💡 Why is it so important for every child to have a champion?

Think about the kids who are late to class , are unkind to others 😒, push your buttons 😤, are disruptive 💥 or struggle academically 📉.

These are the kids who often get lost in the system because they don't give you the warm and fuzzies 💔. But guess what? These are the kids who need a champion more than anyone else 🛡❤️.

Without someone to support and encourage them 🤝, the less likable kids are more likely to fail 🙅‍♂️. But when they have someone who shows them how incredible they are 🌈, and who inspires them to be and do better 🚀, they have a chance to flourish 🌻!

How to Be a Champion for Your Students

Build Relationships with Every Child

🌟 Start with Positive Assumptions:
Approach each day with the belief that every student wants to and can succeed. 💪 This mindset can transform the classroom atmosphere 🤷‍♂️ and encourage students to meet your positive expectations. 🙌

💬 Personal Connections Matter

Make an effort to understand each student's interests 🎨, challenges 🧩, and dreams ⭐️. This could be as simple as asking about their weekend 🗓, acknowledging their efforts 🎯, or sharing a bit of your own story 💖.

🎉 Celebrate Every Victory

Recognize not just academic achievements 🎓 but personal growth 🌱 and effort too. Small acknowledgments can boost a student's confidence 😄 and motivation 🚀 significantly.
