How can KS2 learn the symbolic items on the Haft Seen table?
Haft Seen is a traditional table setting of Nowruz, a festival which marks the Persian New Year (also referred to as the Iranian New Year). The festival also welcomes the beginning of the spring equinox. A traditional Haft Seen table contains seven key items and each item on the table has its own individual symbolic meaning.
This Nowruz Haft Seen Table KS2 Labelling Activity contains a poster which shows a traditional Haft Seen table display along with information about the names, descriptions and meanings of the key items. It also contains a KS2 activity sheet where children are encouraged to draw each of the seven symbolic items for themselves. They then have to fill in information boxes about each of the items before drawing arrows to match the information boxes to their pictures.

How can I use these Nowruz Pattern Colouring Pages in class?
In anticipation of the Iranian new year, you may want to start introducing the topic of Nowruz to your class. While you can throw Nowruz Facts around, we suggest you start by activating any prior knowledge that the learners do have about Nowruz or New Year's Day in general.
Hand out these Nowruz Pattern Colouring Pages on the 21st of March and get the children to colour these pages in. Remind the learners in your class to engage in mindful colouring, paying particular attention to every pattern that they do colour in.
Once your learners have completed colouring in all the Nowruz Pattern Colouring Pages, ask them what they think the patterns are associated with. You will be rather amazed at the learners' responses. Once all the learners have responded, get them to see the link between the Nowruz Pattern Colouring pages and the Iranian new year called Nowruz.
You must remember, these beautiful Nowruz Pattern Colouring Pages are a great resource to give to your KS2 class when you are teaching about the New Year celebration of the Iranian people called Nowruz. The intricate designs of the Nowruz patterns allow children to experiment with colour in order to create an eye-catching display.

How can I teach my KS1 class about Nowruz?
When teaching a class about the Iranian new year which is called Nowruz, you need to make sure that you know the Nowruz facts as well. You can teach your KS1 class all about Nowruz with this handy facts file.
Nowruz is an event celebrated at the start of Spring. By using this Nowruz Facts File in class, you can discuss all the Nowruz related Facts such as when Nowruz is celebrated, how Nowruz is celebrated as well as how the new year is celebrated in Iran, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
Included with the Nowruz Facts File is a map which displays the main countries that celebrate Nowruz. You want to start a discussion in class about the Nowruz celebration, traditions, and other Nowruz Facts. Get learners to do some research, so they can find out more Nowruz Facts to share with the class. You want to make your lesson on these Nowruz Facts fun. Since many families clean their homes in anticipation of Nowruz, you can get your learners to help clean your classroom. The cleaning of the classroom will be symbolic of the fresh start that the Iranian people believe in when they clean their homes just before Nowruz.
