🆕 This series of posts will look into everything that matters when dealing with students’ mistakes.

▶️ We all know it from our own language learning experience. We have our own set of structures and words that we master, and also our own set of mistakes. We basically create our own system of the language we’re learning. That is called interlanguage – inter- because it’s between our own language and our target language.

❓Why is this important for teachers?
❗️Students make systematic errors in their interlanguage. As teachers we should see those errors as evidence that students are applying rules. That is not a bad thing. However, if students do not get correction from us their errors will become fossilised, meaning that it becomes more difficult to correct them.

✨ 3 Fun Pronunciation Games for Your English Class ✨

🎯 1. Where’s the Stress?
Help your students master tricky word stress with this engaging game!

🔹 How to Play:
- Prepare a list of words where stress patterns can be confusing, like photograph, vegetable, or record (noun vs. verb).
- Ss guess the stressed syllable.
- Write answers on the board with the correct syllable highlighted.
- Divide into teams—each correct answer scores a point. Wrong answers? The other team can steal!

🔸 Examples:
Hotel (stress on the second syllable)
Present (noun: PRE-sent; verb: pre-SENT)

💡 This activity sharpens their listening and speaking skills in a lively way!

🎯 2. Sound Hunt
Turn learning into a playful treasure hunt for sounds!

🔹 How to Play:
- Pick a specific sound, like /ɜː/ (bird).
- Ss find words with this sound—around them, in class materials, or from memory.
- Compete in teams: one minute to collect and correctly pronounce as many words as possible.
🔸 Examples for /ɜː/:
bird, girl, work, turn

✨ Bonus: If a word is mispronounced, the other team can correct it for extra points! Great for tackling commonly confused sounds, like /θ/ vs. /s/.

🎯 3. Tongue Twisters
Who doesn’t love the challenge and laughter of tongue twisters?

🔹 How to Play:
- Start with a simple one, like Red lorry, yellow lorry.
- Let ss try it slowly, then faster, and finally as quickly as they can. Mistakes = more fun!
For advanced students, challenge them with longer ones like:
"If two witches were watching two watches, which witch would watch which watch?"
