In Shitoryu, Shuto Uke is performed by coordinating the whole body, so the movement feels natural, strong, and efficient, coming from a connected use of the body, not just moving the arm alone. One of the key elements is the use of Gyaku Hanmi, where the hip rotates in opposition to the blocking arm, generating power through coordinated torque and stability.
Equally important is the positioning of the blocking arm. The elbow and forearm should remain as close to the body as possible, ensuring both protection of the centerline and efficient transmission of force. The technique must be executed as a single continuous motion, beginning from the solar plexus, traveling over the opposite upper arm, and extending to the final position without interruption. Pausing or separating the movement reduces both effectiveness and fluidity.
This method emphasizes unity of motion, correct alignment, and a seamless connection between the body and the technique.

Heiko-Sanchin Dachi 平行三戦立ち
(Paralleled-Hourglass Stance)

From Heiko Dachi stance with the width of one foot, step one length of a foot forward and make the front foot in 30 degree angle inward while the back foot is in straight line. Basically both length and width of this stance is just one foot. This powerful stance appearing in Papuren Kata of Go Kenki of White Crane fist.

Soe Ashi-Dachi 添え足立ち
(Supported Leg Stance)
Both feet are parallel together, and back foot is on the toes. Back leg is supporting front leg by touching inner thigh. This stance appears in Papuren Kata.

«Kaiso» (Founder) Kenwa Mabuni, creator of Shitoryu Karate

The descendant of warriors of Ryukyu from the kingdom of a noble king Kenio Oshiro, the founder of karate-do Shitoryu, Master Kenwa Mabuni was born on November 14, 1889 in Shuri, Okinawa. As a Kenio family successor, Master Mabuni used a hieroglyph “Ken” – “Clever”, “Wise” which later on was applied as a principal in Shitoryu schools and its philosophy and by that Kenwa Mabuni meant “Wise and Harmonious”.
