Traditional training methods such as Nigirigame—gripping jars used to build strength, control, and endurance—have been passed down through generations. Inspired by this age-old practice, I developed a modern adaptation called Nigiribooru (握りボール). Unlike the traditional earthenware jars, Nigiribooru uses a ball with adjustable weight plates, making it more versatile and accessible for today’s practitioners while preserving the core principles of grip training and posture.

Itosu Rohai Sandan

A key movement in Itosu Rohai Sandan starts after blocking a Jodan punch. Use sukui uke to lift and control the attacking arm. Then swing the arm downward while pulling the opponent toward you. Twist the arm during the motion to break balance, guide the opponent to the floor, and finish with an arm lock.
